Don't know why everyone is so scared of balance. It matters not if its right side up or down. BALANCE IS BALANCE. The only difference is how quickly is will tip to the heavy side. If you use this method it will come out perfect. I locate the balance point and mark it on the body of the plane. I place a 1 1/2" BY 24" peice of pipe on a tall box and place the body on the pipe. Because the pipe is round and hard the body will tip in the heavy direction right away. Simply roll the pipe foward or back on the body until it balances and see if it aligns with your mark. Santi,
The plane ballances easiest upside down but watch it close as a little weight when you are close to balance goes a long ways and once it starts to tip to the heavy end it can rotate quickly.

You are right Jim it will tip right away and you should have someone help hold the plane so that is does not roll off the pipe and damage the ship. But this method will always tell you where it is balanced, it can't lie for cheat like your fingers.

This past weekend I balanced my new 103"AT-6 and is flys like a dream. The balance is so "right on" that it will flew with only 2 notches of power for 5 or 6 laps of the field. It looked kind of silly, this big monster plane was just about moving foward in a 5MPH breeze.

Balanced mine right side up at the recommended starting balance point. Flys great. From there you can move back as you like. The elevator throws in the book are plenty even at the modest balance point so don't overdo them.
