Default DP Extra FIRST Flights

Well, it's been a LONG time coming, but finally got the DP Extra up today. Taurus 52 worked perfectly, flawless performance of both engine and airframe. All parts stayed where they were supposed to, and noises were normal for the Taurus Pitts muffler. NO control aberrations, no flutter, no slop. Just a terrific first flights day.

It was uneventful, yet VERY pleasing to fly. Accurate, precise, smooth, "big", nimble, straight, ya da ya da ya da....

Will have updates on my page in a couple days....but it's a keeper, and definitely could become the "everyday airplane".

Default DP Extra FIRST Flights

Well it's good to hear a succesful story of this plane after reading the problems some other modelers have had. A buddy of mine has one on back order due in about 6 weeks. We have everything figured out except for the power issue. We're thinking of a Saito 180 but with the tail heavy situation are considering a heavier and more powerful gasser. How about your balance issues and your servo locations. Did you mount them in the rear or use DP's modification to the pull pull elevator and rudder installation? Also I heard something about them moving the wing back to solve some CG concerns and if this is the case is this the version you recieved? Thanks for any help you might bring to this issue!

Glad to hear it all finally worked!
Is there room under the wing tube for a small -say 2.25" dia can?
My friend has one of these he stuck a ----- glo engine in and I have little - no make that, no hope in it working well.
A 40 RE w/ can should be a quiet alternative -

Default Can?

I would say no, at least not without doing the "split gear" mod, and building in a tunnel, even then, I'm betting it would be open bottom with some canister showing.

It flies big, but really is not that roomy inside...

The split gear is easy enough - and I was looking for about a 2" wide x1" deep cutout.
enclosed pipes are as you know - a bit of a pain-
