Hi guys,
I have ordered my Katana .50 from Austria , since they (LHS) dont have it in Switzerland. I should get it in these days...
I saw in your advertisements that Katana .50 will weight 4,5 - 5,5 Lbs. which can be translated like 2 - 2,4 kgs. which is not bad.
But in CMP site I saw their claims that it will be 2,75 - 2,85 kgs which is 6 - 6,3 Lbs. which will be very heavy. I would like to know if they produce special planes for Ultra RC. Or is there any misprint or anything.....
Could you please enlighten us a little bit...
Regards.

I just weighted the parts, servos ( Futaba 3001), receiver(Webra syncro) and engine ( Irvine .53)
They are all together 2.700 grs. (nearly 6 lbs.) (and definetly not 4,5 - 5,5 lbs ) I will weight it again, when finished. Thou it looks heavy.
Regards.

What prop were you using with the OS46AX?
I'm using the same engine, not flown yet due to weather (too cold). I don't have a scale, but now I'm going to get one so I know how heavy.

Hmmm, that seems like too much prop for an OS46. While the OS46AX was on my Tiger II, I was using an 11x6W prop and also a 12.25x3.75. Both similar in performance really, at least, that I could notice with my Tiger II. My tiger "felt" heavy and is posted to be 5.5 lbs. So, given marketing fudge factors, I'd say over 6 lbs is not unreasonable.
From a magazine article, I recall that the OS peaks in HP near 12k rpm. With my 11x6W prop, I tach'd 10.7k rpm. With 12x4 (12.25x3.75), I tach'd 11k rpm.
I think I'm going to keep my fingers crossed. I do like the look on this model!
Cheers,
Greg.

I had one with a OS 70 in it... Flew it two flights and Snapped it in a slow turn while landing, I ordered a 2nd one and had a YS 63 in it that died and it fell like a brick... Afterthought... I think the plane needs nose weight and is tail heavy... Don't know if I will re-buld the 2nd one...

Hi again.
Today I have ordered pitts muffler for my Irvine .53 from JEN/England. Should be here in 2 weeks. I think I need to make some drilling and sending with engine mount and with the fuse to make it lighter. I think engine mount is made way too strong ( and heavy) so some cheesing will be possible. With pitts muffler and w/o cowling and pants, I will try to keep the weight about 5,5 lbs. ( not sure thou) . I have to use some light servos instead of std. ones as well.
I will post again when I start building.
Regards.
