Default Ryan STA arobatic performance ?

I'm thinking about getting the Ryan but I'm wondering how aerobatic it is. Can it do knife edge, waterfalls, flat spins and so on ?

Its pretty much a scale bird not designed for 3D, although the STA-M was designed as a pilot trainer in world war II it is more agile in the air then the typical war bird trainer such as the PT 19.

Thats about the best I can offer as I have only flew mine once this past weekend.

Pat,

It's not an aerobatic plane like an Extra or Cap. It has a small rudder and it has a fair amount of wing dihedral. That alone will limit what you can do. The Ryan can do basic aerobatics, loops, rolls, stall turns, 4 point rolls and limited knife edge. Some of the more advanced stuff won't be all that pretty because you'll be fighting the plane's inherent design as a trainer. As far as spins go it probably will flat spin but I would not be tempted to try it with that plane.

It's intended to be a sport scale aerobatic and it does that very well. I would suggest a purpose built aerobatic if you want that sort of thing. It will make it much easier.

just my 2 cents....

I saw a GP Ryan fly knife edge at a Fly-In. It had a 120 for power
