Hi

Motor fits easily but you need to make your own muffler.
My muffler sounds cool with a popping sound.
Pulls it nicely - motor is new and have not yet maxxed it out.
Vibration is not a problem at all.

Maiden flight on Saterday and it flies great - this plane can slow down so much you wont believe it - this is with dual 1100mAH packs for the rx
and a 1100mAH for the ignition [X(] (I think it can fly slower than my light Magic Extra )

I can turn this plane so flat with rudder and opposite aileron that it it looks like it is on rails.

A wonderful plane with that elliptical wing.
I see you made all the little things work, like extended throttle arm, protected wiring and gas line.
Any intention of using this plane as a workhorse?

No - but I found that this game favours the pragmatic approach !! Besides its such a nice motor (and plane) that it would be shame not to do it properly.

Forgot to mention that I think that this is "the" gas motor for the Rascal (if not the best alround choice).
With the slightly heaver motor and ignition battery I could place the rudder servo in the tail in the already provided cutout thus eliminating the pull pull. Even with the 3 batteries onboard the plane is
an absolute floater.

Another factor is that the MVVS is a bit cheaper (here in SA at least) than the four stroke equivelant for the Rascal - (no 2 stroke glows in this baby [:@]), that coupled with the
low price of gas compared to glow for this size , Oh did I mention the totally reliable idle and throttle up and much less cleaning up and easy easy start and and ...

Seriously though I think this is the best set up.

which flies great,hope the bigger version is as docile? What is the all up flying weight?

That plane looks like the Kadet Senior...shouldn't you be flying it with an OS .46FX?

I really got a kick out of how the .40 size Rascal would turn flat. Just sort of skid around, would almost look like one wingtip had got caught on something!

The weight without fuel is about 13.5 lbs but the plane has 3 1100 mAh Nicads - this is really not a problem, it is still light in the air !

I am using a 18x6 and stayed with the stock fuel tank (just put in a gas bung) The stock Sig spinner internals were to small for the 18x6 and I replaced it with a Protech Aluminium
one.

This is the 4th 110 Rascal at the club so I made one or two very minor mods - I will take pics and post them.

Kmot: Had to make the mufflere as I could find nothing even close - actually had to make 2 - found out you cant really weld on the muffler once its been used - seemingly due to the oil.

Thanks Tim...That's great..If I go over 15lbs it's classed as a Large model (in the UK) and certain conditions apply. I'am not that qualified yet! May fly at the end of year or even next.

I have a Rascal 110 that I have been trying to decide what engine to use. I like the fact that you didn't have to cut the cowl but I weld to make my own muffler. Can you let us know exactly how you made the muffler so that maybe I can get a friend to help me with the welding.
I can't wait to get mine in the air.

I think I'm replying to an old message here, but I've flown the Rascal 110 with both an OS 1.60FX and a Zenoah G26. Both are very nice engines for this airplane. I used an 18x8 prop on both engines. The OS 1.60FX (2-stroke glow) turned the prop at about 10,000 rpm, the Zenoah maxes out at about 7000 rpm. Thus the OS engine gave *much* nicer vertical performance and we clocked the rascal at 102mph on a down wind pass (probaby 85-90mph in still air.) But it slows *way* down for landing. It has a tremendous speed range if you put a lot of power up front. The Zenoah also gives plenty of power, but top end speed is lower of course and vertical performance isn't as spectacular, but it's gas with all the advantages that go along with it.

Something like an OS1.60FX will give you spectacular performance. Something like the Zenoah will give you a really nice all around relaxing flyer.

I think you could load this up to 20 lbs total weight and it would still be a total floater. We have maybe 2 lbs of extra stuff in ours and had an engine die on us at about 1000' AGL. It took a *long* time to glide down and I ended up doing some side slips to bleed off altitude towards the end so I could get her down on the ground.

My personal opinion is that the Rascal 110 is a wonderful, wonderful airplane. (Of course I've never met an airplane I didn't like!)

Thanks for the info Kurt. I am still yet to finish my Rascal. To many other projects. I am considering the First Place Engine that Sig recommends though because I have a LHS that sells them cheap and a couple guys locally that are using FPEs int their Rascal. The FPE give good relaxing performance which is what I'm looking for.

Hey guys - Between a friend and myself, we have flown the Rascal 110 on these engines: SuperTigre G-2300, SuperTigre G-3750, FPE 1.3, Zenoah G-26, and a Moki 1.8 !!! Needless to say the Moki 1.8 provided some thrust offset challenges initially, but it would hover the best of all engines. The FPE 1.3 was underpowered for what we like, but probably provided the best scale like flight. The SuperTigre G-2300 was also a good selection, as was the Zenoah G-26. My buddy has the SuperTigre G-3750 at present and I haven't really seen it yet.
My point is that depending on what you want to accomplish with this plane, there is a large and varied selection of engines available.
