Default NEED HELP, Broken wing joiner

I am presently putting together a Tiger 2 ARF from Carl Goldberg which I am not truely impressed with as a somewhat newbi, it is my 2nd plane and the instructions are vague, I called to try and talk with their technician and he was never in and never returned my calls as they said he would, I made several attempts with no success.

PROBLEM #1 come from lack of experience & impatience[ OK, add in some ignorance ], I trial fit everything / the wing joiner seemed to be way short as it slid in 1" past the center line which put the dihedral angle inside the wing, so I cut another wing joiner out in my wifes wood shop and evidentally didn't use the correct wood as it snapped off when I shoved it into the wing after epoxying,I think it was birch , which felt hard and somewhat heavy enough to do the trick, I thought it was a pretty hard wood, like the wife says....." thats what I get for thinking " I was using 6 min epoxy which according to Tower Hobbies is what CG recommends, I have since gotten some 30 min epoxy to give myself more time to work with parts .
So is there any way to clean out the broken joiner and save that 1/2 of the wing....???

2nd problem is being taken care of as the firewall and fuselage supports are glued in backwards placing the engine thrustline way to far to the left from a forward view, I looked closely to make sure and I was right as the hole for the throttle linkage was TOP RIGHT and the steering arm hole on the BOTTOM LEFT from a forward view, the tube guides were in the fuselage supports lined up with the firewall which told me they were all in backwards and there would be no way to fit the linkage to the throttle so I called them and I had to mail it in so they could look and replace if necessary so I am sure they will make it right...I HOPE SO AS I AM A LITTLE ANGRY AT THIS POINT ... LOL

3rd problem , the wire for the Main landing gear is very large in Diameter, probably for NEWBIE LANDINGS, I trial fit the wire into the botttom of the wing and the holes are all drilled about 1/8 " offset from the inside of one spar so the only way to get the wire in is to slice into the next spar, It was this way on both wings.....I hope this doesn't weaken the spar as the wires are extremely difficult to get into the slot so the strap will fit flat on the wings......I love this Hobby and I will not allow this one bad apple of a plane to steer me back to golfing, but the thought has crossed my mind......LOL

I would appreciate any help or advice from you experts that your willing to share.........

You are not kidding. That is the ARF from hell. You'll be as well off with another plane?

It really works out bad for all concerned when something is wrong.

You are going to need a wing or else do some major surgery.

The fuselage, redrill for the throttle rod and make a shim to aim the engine to the right.

I've been this route a couple times. I've licked my wounds and got on with my life.

I had one that was damaged in shipment.

I had another that was from one of the most promenent US companies but it was actually made by a very well known Hong Kong company. It was the poorest excuse for a ARF that ever was and wasn't representative of the quality you would expect from either company.

Most times, I have been able to salvage the situation without sending anything back.

Good luck,

Jim

I am remodeling a senior kadet arf right now that has never flown. After talking to a fellow club member that has one and finding the problems he had I decided to do some mods before flying it. He broke the fire wall out on a hard landing and he broke the wings apart with a high g maneuver. When I got in to mine I find it glued together with hot glue which I don't like so am doing some changing before useing it.
Not sure I would try another arf.

NITEHAWK1957, I have the Tiger 2 ARF as well. On the wing joiner, I have only seen one plane that has a stop for the joiner to keep it from going in too far. I also usually have to sand a bit here and there to make sure that it doesn't go in too tight. If the dry fit is ok then to make sure that I don't shove it in too far I just mark a line with a pen straight down the V at the centre. Then I put the epoxy on one side only and just slide it in the centre mark. After it sets up then I add epoxy to the other side and also the edges of the wing and then join the 2 halves. Since you allready have epoxy in there, you can either try to dremel it out or just leave it and go to method 2. Method 2: strip back the wing covering of both halves about 2 1/2" on each side of the wing joint. Then use a small weight to hold down the left side of the wing. Make a stick of balsa to put under the right wing tip to hold up the right side of the wing at the right height to get your dihedral angle. Then epoxy glue to join the 2 halves together. After it sets up, flip the wing over and fill in the remaining gap with more epoxy. Now buy some medium weight fiberglass and use thinned epoxy to glue it down around the wing gap. Sand the fiberglass hairs smooth when it sets up and recover with Ultra coat. Throttle linkage: I just redrilled my own holes and ran my own throttle tube. Landing gear: I can't remember what I did here. Sounds like you may just need to redrill the holes a bit bigger keeping to the inside of the wing so that you don't wreck the wing rib?? The engine also ended up a bit more to one side rather than centred whcih looks goofy. I flew it any way with no problems. Hope some of this helps, Fast!
