I picked up My Pizzaz Today! I am very excited! The covering was perfect, and I am really impressed with how light and sturdy it is for an ARF. Here is my plan for setup:

Saito .72
APC 13 x 6
2-HS-422 alerons
2-HS-85MG elevator halves mounted in rear
1-HS-605 Pull-Pull rudder
1-HS-81 Throttle
4040 Hardware
Dubro Hinges
Sullivan RST-10 FlexTank
1100mha 6V battery
Saftey switch with 6V regulator

I have a few questions:

Where is the best CG? The inst recommends 31/4 to 3 3/4 but I have read threads with it as far back as 4 3/4?

The inst only recommends high and low throws, I would like to set up high, low and 3D? what throws do you recommend?

Any other suggestions?

Geez - dntmn - Looks like everybody is tired of the pizazz. Your plan looks good. I've used both the Sato 72 and the YS63. Can't see much difference in flying. 13/6 APC definitely outperforms every thing else I've tried for this airplane engine combo. I started out with my cg at 3 3/4 and moved it back to 5 inches in 1/4 inch encrements. I settled on 4 3/4. At 5 inch the plane was manageable but unstable in pitch, very touchy to land even on low rates and the pitch rate during flying seemed to be a little unpredictable. It didn't seem to follow stick input real well but I'm not using the best servos for this thing either.
I set up the control throws and expo per the instructions except for rudder for the first flights. I don't have dualrate for rudder so I just went for the max without it hitting the elevators. I would make first flight on low rates and the cg at about 3 3/4 just to make sure what the plane wants to do. If it's like mine it'll fly fine but won't do much. High rate on the elevator is about right for normal flying. Low rate on the aileron is way to low and high rate turns the plane into a drill plus in my opinion tends to kill manuevers. I finally settled on a throw about half way between low and high and maybe a little closer to high on the ailerons. The high rate elevator is not enough for reliable water falls or flips. Mostly you get a very tight stalled loop but not a tumble. I'm going to make my high elevator throws my low rate and go to the extreme on my high rates and see what happens. It'll give me a little trouble landing in a wind but that's OK. With flaperons I'm using 75%. I can't really say they do much except they seem to help with a hover, and need to be turn off when landing. I think I'll go to 100% and see how the plane likes that.
This plane is not really a "fun fly" but more of a fun to fly that can do a lot of stuff. It's too quirky and heavy for a real fun fly.

I would start at 3 1/2 on the cg and low rates the move it back by shifting the battery around. Have the high rates set up and don't use then till you get a couple of mistakes high then wring it out.

I have the CG on mine right at 4.25”. I have always had it there and never had a problem. Definitely start off with low rates. I have my high rates and high as I can get them. My aileron throws are almost 3” each way with no EXPO. (It takes a lot of practice)

I have a Saito 72 with an 11oz Hayes fuel tank and an 1300mah 4.8V battery pack and I didn’t have to use any weights to balance my plane.

I have found that the Pizazz has been my favorite out of all my planes. There is nothing you can’t do with it. Well, knife-edges are a little tough. I also use a 13x6 APC prop and am able to hand launch it on a calm day.

my P'zaz knife-egdes all day long... I'll have to see where my CG is (I think right behind checkerboard)... doesn't take much rudder to hold it.

What are your empty weights? I started construction, It will be a little while before I finish. I tossed the gear, wheels, axles, hinges, control horns, fuel tank, and push rods. They will be replaced with lighter wheels , axles, and CF gear. I was going to use a 6V 1100mha NiCd(5.5oz), but desided to try a 6V 720mha NiMh(2oz). I have heard a lot about the CG I think I will split the difference and start it at 4" and mark the inside of the fuse as to the location of the battery for 4 1/4, 4 1/2, and 4 3/4. and adjust it at the field if necessary.

Sounds like a good plan. Mine weights 5.5lbs (heavy). I'm using a 6v cad 600ma pack. I used it to adjust cg by sliding it further and further back over the wing untill it was at the trailing edge of the wing. I have the reciever just in front of it. It still took 1 oz of lead in the tail to get 4 3/4. Your efforts to keep this light will be rewarded.
I question the need for a 10oz tank though. IMHO that's enough to fly all one day and part of the next and it's all forward of the wing.

The sulivan RST-10oz tank itself is lighter than the stock tank, an 8oz would have required too much foam to keep it stationary. Hopefully by placing 2 HS 85 mg(combined 1.54oz) in the tail will allow me to easily adjust the CG with my battery. Will I be able to install a strip of velcro to the entire length of the radip hatch cover, located under the landing gear, and move my battery back and forth on this to play with the CG?

Yes you should be able to do that as long as no servos are in the way. With the servos out of there it'll be easier than trying to slide the battery pack around over the wing.

Finally I got started on My Pizzaz. It is a beautifully covered airplane. The wing, stab, rudder, fin, and elevator is on. The aleron, and rudder servos are installed, and the engine is next. I made a few mistakes, and wish to list them so nobody makes the same mistakes:

1. I mixxed 1/4 microbaloons, and 3/4 30 min epoxy to glew the wing and tail on in order to save weight. I put one drop of red candle dye into the epoxy in order to conseal the wing gap. I was very impressed and it look extremly well. The color matched so well that it was hard to tell where I accidently got some epoxy on the covering. I let it dry and four hours later checked on it, and to my suprise, the epoxy had reacted with the dye and all of my glew joints were purple and there were some purple stains on the covering. My advice mix paint NOT Dye with epoxy for color matching.

Does anybody know how the get epoxy off from covering?

2. I threw away the H9 hinges and used better CA type hinges. The left aleron went on perfect, but I installed the right aleron and was distracted bu a visitor just before I was ready to apply the CA, I resumed and glewed it on without aligning it with the tip of the wing. It is only shifted inward less than 1/8", and is hardly noticible, but really bothers me.

3. The tailwheen wite is a made of hardened steel. I bent the tailwheen wire as per the instruction manual and just before reaching 90deg It broke. I made a new one from a slightly softer rod and it looks and works great.

Has anybody else had this problem, how do you suggest bending it without breaking it?

4. Last but not least I installed the pull-pull controles on the rudder. This was my first pull-pull installation. What a pain in the a&^. I finally got all of the cables installed and centered perfect and thought it should be a little tighter. When I squeezed the cable end inorder to tighten the clevace I slipped and cut the cable. This caused a lot of under the breath mumbling. It has now been replaced and looks great.

How tight should rudder Pull-Pull cables be.

After the engine reciever battery(forward) gear and everything else is installed I will position my two elevator servos(HS-85mg) in-order to get a 4" balence point. From there I will slowly move my battery back as I get more familiar with the plane. This plane is getting CF Gear, ultralight wheels, micro elevator and throttle servos, as well as a 720mha NiMh Pack in order to save weight. I will post what the final weight is as soon as I finish.

Does anybody else have any suggestions that will prevent me from making more stupid mistakes?

I will post comments as the construction finishes, as well as a flight report.

Aceton - but once the epoxy is set it probably won't come off.
I didn't use theirtail wheel assembly. I used an after market.
I use solid thin music wire for my pull-pull running in thin plastic tube (inside nyrod tube) and hook it up just like a push rod on both sides.

I finished my pizzaz and it is awsome. It weighs in at 4 lb 12oz dry with a Saito 72 and APC 13x6 Prop. It has Carbon fiber gear, durboro ultra light wheels, 720mha NiMh, 2 HS 422 alerons, 2 HS 81MG elevator, 1 HS81 Throttle, and 1 HS 605 Rudder (pull-pull)It lands at a snales pace with the saito at 1600rpm and jumps into the sky when throttle is applied. The first takeoff was verticle after 4 foot. great plane thanks guys for all the help.

Where did you find the carbon fiber landing gear? What kind is it. I have the Pizzaz with Sito .65 it flys great but needs to diet. The LG with it is a chunk.

That's a nice weight. Your efforts paid off. I wish mine were that light. Yours is a good 10 ozs lighter than mine. That has got to make a world of difference and mine flys good as it is with the Saito 72

one of the weight savings was a 720mha NIMH pack. It scares me though I don't necessalary trust the battery pack yet. (lack of knowledge)I have a 11oomha NICD but it is 3 oz heavier.

How would this plane go with a 91FX? I have one I need a home for. It's only 2.7ounces heavier than the saito 72.
