Understand that I have been building airplanes for many years. I have never built an ARF. However I was open minded about then as they became more popular. Just recently a member of the club I belong to, who had limited building skills, asked me to help him assemble his ARF pride and joy.
The airplane is a Hanger 9 CAP 232 ARF. I must say that it is the worst piece of junk I have ever seen fall out of a kit box. Vague instructions, poor quality wood, poor fits and a covering so wrinkled it would make a hippopotamus look good. Is this typical of ARFs or is Hanger 9 at the bottom of the quality food chain?

Here is a hanger nine CAP rebuilt from the pieces of 3 crashes. Instead of going back with the Matt Chapman scheme I chose to use the Sig Breitling scheme. It flys as well as it ever did and is almost a pound lighter to boot.
While I would not rate the originals as the very best I would rate them as much better than average sport aerobatic flyers and a good buy for the dollar.

Ed S, it might help if you mentioned what version of the H9 Cap you have. I know of three. The 73" is dated and went thru a few revisions. I liked the last one that had the lighter tail. The next step up was pulled from the market for a while and then brought back after corrections were made. Turned into a good flying plane. The largest one 33% I have not built or flown but looks good in the air.
If what you have is the 73" then who knows how old it is or what its been thru.
Ed M.
Almost forgot about the 46 size, that makes four.

I did not know there were several versions. My friend just showed up with a box. The background information here was useful, I think it is the 73" version.
Thanks for the responses.
