Default caution-ultra stick wing failure

Hey BB:

You're welcome.

But if you hadn't asked I wouldn't have mentioned it.

You sound like you and I do have a similar problem. When I grew, I grew so fast my head outran my hair, it sticks out my chin, now.

I tell people it's an Italian haircut; a Garibaldi.

With your twin fly by low and fast,
. trim your hair ,both sides, one pass.

Bill.

hehehe thats why i have the opportunity to buy graupner products... i don't know if they too are made in "slave labor" camps...but the quality of them is impeccable.. i buy arfs only because i have no building skills so i don't even bother... but the initial going over out of the box is impressive better then all the other arfs i have had in the past. on the point of flying.. flies much better also... maybe the motor hehehehe .65la but it was designed for it... i would definitely buy other graupner products.. i know you probably cannot get them in the states but i really wish you could.. but I'm not sure on that fact so don't quote me...

Hey Graupnerfan, I too am a graupner fan. Yes we can get them here in the states through Hobby Lobby. I have the little spit with a 400 speed geared in it. It is so tender that I am afraid to fly it. We have a grass field here in Vermont and I have opted to hand launch it but there is no where to grab it comfortably. Plus, it is made of foam and will crunch easily. What to do? Do you have any experience with this particular model?
I have been buying their electric motors and speed controls. I am getting tired of all of the oil on my planes. I started flying and building in Japan in 65' just as monocote came out. Thank goodness it has improved. I hate to paint! Later. bird.

BIGBIRD: i never heard of that particular model... sorry. but i think they make pretty good equipment tho. thats good that you can get Graupner in the states really good to hear.. as far as launching your plane.. im not sure what to tell you due to my lack of knowledge about that particular one. i taught myself how to fly and i started on a cox e-z-bee with a little .049 just screaming and i had to hand launch it what a pain... i vowed myself that i would never buy another foamie but that one severed me well may it rest in pieces... if you can send me a pic to my email and maybe i can come up with something a side and bottom pic would be great thanks but sorry i cant help right now.....

Here's whats left of my US .40 after the wing ejected.
I had the landing gear problems too. I had replaced
the front wing block, and dowels after it had burned
itself in half.

I'm pretty sure the rear wing hold down let go. I'll
call them, and ask for a replacement. I'll have to eat
the $320. I gave to the guy for the damage done to
the hood of his Jeep....when the "missile" crashed
into it. Thank Goodness noboby was hurt.

I recently purchased an Arresti, right before the Stick
went in....and now all I can do is eye it with distrust.

Flyboy, were you at an AMA field? I believe the insurance covers such things as that. It should at least cover the damage to the vehicle. bird.

Yes, it went in at full bore...I was watching the wing
flutter down right in front of me and didn't even throttle
back. It came off in straight and level flight.

And no, it wasn't at an AMA field.

Dave.

GraupnerFan:

Every Graupner motor I've had has been labeled "Made in Japan," Relabeled Mabuchi. Comment?

FlyboyDave:

What happened to your homeowner's insurance? Not to mention the AMA? Why did YOU pay the $320?

When your twin,
. for the last time goes in:
Double your pleasure, double your fun,
. Finish it off with a double shotgun.

Sorry, Doublemint.

Bill.

PS: (Response to other comments0 Your insurance covers, AMA field or not. wr

Default It is just obscene!!!!

I am not saying that this guy with the ustick is the problem, it is just that the last two crashes at our field were "structural" and "interference". Mind you that the people that were going over the balsa carcass ....were lets say......less than experts by any means...But Ijust think it is hilarious that people always try to find a reason other than being really crummy pilots. It is like the guy that swings at the tennis ball, misses, then looks at the tennis raquet like it was its fault.. Have I assembled an arf that needed more glue and bracing...sure. Keep in mind that these planes are probabbly built by 12 year old kids in some Indonesian country...they could care less if the joint has enough glue, they just want to end their 18 hour work day so they can sleep before having to do it all over. i do not even remember the point I was trying to make....but I do know what makes me mad.....The guy at the field that knows everything, has flown everything, can fly better then anyone......yet tinkers with his OS 60FP for 45 minutes trying to get it to transition from idle w/o dying. yeah, we all know this guy, and once his grossly underpowered Piper Cub does make it off the deck, it is sheer luck if it comes down in one piece. It is very obvious who this person is, he is usually the one yelling DEAD STICK!!! 2-3 minutes after taking off. But he is an Expert in all matters R/C........just ask him.

Firefighter:

I freely admit the destruction of my RCM 40 was totally my fault, trying to make it do what it was not designed to do.

And when I damaged my Diablo it was on a flight I should not have made - the engine didn't act right before take off. Thankfully it was just a short landing, only cracked the ABS wheel pants.

Been playing with these things more than 40 years, now, and I do indeed know everything. (Except what I've not yet learned.)

Since I really, truly know it all,
. Why do I sometimes drop the ball?

Bill.

Default Fire, what fire.

I'm still laughing my ***** off. Keep it real brother!! I think that falls in the rant category opposed to flame.

Seriously, we all know some ARFs are better than others and some units of the same ARF are better than others. I also think we all know (regardless of sometimes accusatory tones) that the end of the day we are each ultimately responsible for our aircraft and the damage they take or cause. I appreciate hearing about others experiences so I can have safer planes and more fun.

Jason.

For the record, My US 120 with a Saito 180 has taken everything I can throw at it. Walls, blenders, spinns, snaps, harrier landings... with no bad results. I had read about the problems and heavily reinforced the firewall, wing blocks, tail and gear block. That combined with thorough pre and post flight inspections and my instance of catastrophic structural failures has dropped to nil.... but the newtonian 'law of conservation of crushed balsa' kicked in so my rate of engine and radio failure induced crashes increased to pick up the slack.

Default I get this way when I drink in the morning (just kidding)

I was not attacking anyone on this message board, I was just venting. I am building an arf right now (as we speak), it appears to me that they use a hot glue gun or something...I do not trust the joints. I go through and 5 min epoxy all the stress joints...that is just me. I do not build kits anymore, I am lazy, I like the convienence of arf's. But i think kits will last longer...just my opinion. I love the foam core wings on ARF's, those are the BOMB!!!!anyways, fly safe, be safe, enjoy the new year, hope I did not piss anyone off...I cannot take anymore hatred from people, Grumpy Old Piper Cub Man hates me enough already. This is the last thing he said to me the other day at the field...................." Damnit!!!!!!!!!! I told you NO HIGH SPEED INVERTED FLIGHT SO CLOSE TO THE RUNWAY!!!!!!!!!!" my response, "I can hardly hear a word you are saying, this godd@mn tuned pipe is SO LOUD!"

that is how every day goes for me

That is EXACTLY how I lost my RCM 40. Were you peeking?

Inverted flight with a flat-bottomed wing,
. Sooner or later we learn is not the thing.

I was just kidding about the starting of fires firefighter. I know what you were doing. By the way, I pretty much said the same thing about the hot glue earlier in this thread. And as someone said today, these people aren't paid much and probably work long hours just so we can enjoy our hobby. It is sad to think that those in our hobby exploit others to further their monitary gain rather than share their good fortune with the less fortunate. What's that saying, 'God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth'? That's the one you have to ultimately worry about getting around. It's like a dog on a long chain. Pick up a stick and throw it and watch the dog run after it. They will look like the dog when he hits the end of the chain. JERK!!!! BIRD.
Didn't mean to preach.

In my eperience, Horizn is a stand up company. They make a good product, and will freely replace anything that is wrong. You can obviously tell that this company is definately run by modelers who know what it's like.
