Default CMPro Spitfire

I am after feedback on the CMPro Spitfire 120 size. Am considering buying one and am after positive or negative comments regarding aircraft. Have seen the Hellcat flying but unfortunately the plane spends more time having the flimsy retracts repaired than it does in the air[:@]

Best thing is to do a search on it in these forums as there is loads of info on it. It's a great plane, easy to build and flies superbly on a 1.20 four-stroke.

...............er when I say "build" I really mean "assemble" as it is of course an ARTF. Didn't mean to offend all you genuine builders out there.

Invest in a pair of pneumatic rotating retracts, such as CJ or Sierra, and you won't have that problem.

Rotating retracts?why on a spit?I believe they retract inwards and are non rotrating.

He was also talking about the CMP Hellcat, and I was referring to the CMP Hellcat. Read Post #1.

By the way, the wheels on the Spit retract outward toward the wingtips, not inwards.

Very true Richard. You are da Warbird man !!
I sure wish you would give me some advice on my GSP/CM Spitfire. I'm having a heck of a time with these retracts bending on landings.
It's the only plane I have that uses retracts and it's keeping me from enjoying the Spitfire when I take it out to the field.
I really can't afford to spend $200 on quality retracts at this time. There has got to be an easy fix .
I'm using the cheap Hobbico or Dave Brown style and it's not cutting it for an 11LB bird.

Thanks for the advice guys. Good to hear different ideas and to spark up some friendly banter...........lol
Have to look for the pneumatics first and get a price. Unfortunately here in Aust the importers are buying stock from the States at your retail price, marking it up by as much as 75% then flogging it off to the unsuspecting public. I have been saving hundreds of dollars purchasing direct from your hobby stores over the net and even with international air costs I am still very much ahead

I heard of some guys putting a thicker wire on them. Not sure what size wire you have or if you have the ability to bend some thicker. It would be cheaper then buying new gear.

I have Robart 609HD's but chucked the wires and replaced them with the plain shank of an M5 cap hd screw which acts as the interface between the retract and a Unitracts oleo. Last "heavy" landing tore those suckers right out of the wing - didn't bend the gear though!!
