Is the Hanger 9 Advance 40 VRTF the same plane as the old Hanger 9 advance 40 everone talks about that I thought I heard was discontinued?? If this is not the same plane is it a nice second plane? Looking to get a simialr plane to the Carl Goldberg Tiger 2 ARF. Thanks for your input.

goldwing, I'm pretty sure it's the same plane.....and they are discontinued. I saw a couple of them fly, and they flew really well, and would be a good 2nd plane. I've heard that they fly a lot like the Tiger 2

Get the Tiger if you have a choice.
The Advance is an okay model, but is heavier and doesn't fly nearly as well as the Tiger 2, judging from the examples I've seen. Friends have each, and I've flown them both. Aside from it's bizarre aileron linkage, the Advance seemed pretty much a lead sled to me. Great second airplane for a rookie, though. You just about cannot make it do something bad.
The Tiger 2 is quite a bit lighter, plus it just looks better, IMO. Goldberg warns against installing a big four-stroke, and the area ahead of the wing LE does seem a bit less substantial that it should be. My friend has a .46 FX in his, with no drama.
Even with that "limitation", I would take the Tiger 2 hands-down.

My son and I have been flying one all summer
It is our 2nd plane and we love it
just be carefull with the landing gear just enough room for the wheel and the lock hub. Wheel will rub against strut and will act as a break. The plane does want to come in hotter then a trainer
so breaks are nice. Too many nose wheel hits on my trainer so I beefed up the fire wall and put on a Faults nose gear.
Love it

Steve,
I have a Tiger 2 ARF with a troubled engine. it is a nice plane but the last dead stick on take-off really damaged it so I was looking to replace it. I just cant find one! That is why I was looking at the hanger 9 Advanced. The weight is 5.5 to 6.25 on the Hanger 9 and 4.75 to 5.25 on the Tiger and the Tiger has an extra 1" in the wings. (61" vs. 60") If anyone knows where to get one let me know!
Thanks

The advance 40 artf is a great model for a second plane. run one with an OS 46FX or a saito 65 and you will love it. You can also turn it into a tail dragger easily, and use it for tail dragger training..

I bought one of these used, as my "re-entry" airplane, after a few years out of RC.
It would make a nice 2nd plane/1st low-wing plane, as it will do a bit more than a trainer,
but it still lands as slow as a trainer. Use a good .46 engine, and a 10x6 or 11x5 prop.
The builder of mine chose to go with dual aileron servos. He didn't like the stock setup.
The only other thing I can tell you is keep an eye on that tail, or better yet, GLUE it.
It's a bolt-on design, and eventually, the bolts *will* pull through the sheeting.
Ask me how I know that
(No, it didn't crash. the back bolt pulled through, and things got "weird", so I brought her down)
I got bored with mine pretty quickly, but then again, it wasn't exactly my second plane, either.

yep definitely glue the tail beacuse my tail let go on a very very very low inverted pass and caused a 100 foot long cartwheel it was AWESOME as i walked back to the pits everyone clapper and i took a bow. it was almost as cool as the h9 330l that did a full throttle outside snap at 8 feet
