Hello out there ,,, nope , 2 oz. over 5lbs. with a 46AX. The fuse structure is all hollow like a Goldberg Ulitimate. the choose of wood was excellent, no heavy stuff. The model rolls 15-20 feet and goes nearly straight up with a 10-7 APC on it.
I used the same scale that I weigh my racers with, Haven't been off yet..
I had a Phoenix 46 sized Edge before that and that was a heavy bird, same engine did not have the same vertical.
One thing I did, reading that they were coming out tail heavy, was to put a 1000 Mah battery up by the fuel tank.
One question back, is this a new offering by WM? it's on the top of the list on there web page and I've never seen this "toughLon" covering before.
Thanks for reading ,

Well, I had to run to the basement and double check, The fuse all ready to go came in at 4 lbs. 1 oz.
The wing weighed 1 lbs 2 oz.
So,, It weighs 5 lbs 3 ozs.
I used futaba 5131 for the ailerons and rudder and a hitec 635 for the elevator.
The covering is the weirdest thing, Seems to hold up OK.
I was doing touch and goes with it at dusk and it was a dream to fly.
I'll put some more time on it later, gotta a race this weekend.
I'll bet those WM electric's would be a kick, that laser cutting stuff is the bomb!

hancop,
I have a WM P-51 that I bought second hand, so I didn't build it. The quality of it seems good, though, from what I can see.
The retracts are OK. However, the field I fly from is pretty bumpy, and I have found myself bending them back after all but the nicest landings. It does have a .61 SF in the nose, so it's probably a bit heavier than intended.
So... I wanted to swap out the gear wire with thicker stuff. I don't like how the retracts are constructed. The struts go into the gear blocks, then make a 90 degree, radiused bend and are sandwiched between two blocks held together with machine screws. So.. in order to get the strut out, you have to disconnect the pushrod at the servo, unbolt the retracts and pull them out, tap out the rotation pin, unscrew 4 machine screws, and finally the wire is free. So.. even if I could get new wire... I would have to bend it exactly like the old stuff to get it to fit. Not gonna happen. I broke down and bought a pair of Robart retracts with thicker wire, but haven't yet installed them. $30 was the damage, but they are a LOT more solid, and hopefully won't rock as much as the WM ones did. If you use a lighter engine, and fly out of a nice field though, you might not even have a problem.
One last thing... I made a rreeaaallyy hard "landing" at pretty high speed one day (more of a gear down pass that went awry...). It hit the mains so hard that I have tire marks on my wings... no joke. They sprung back somewhat and I was able to deadstick it (got the prop pretty good). Upon inspecting the damage, the gear mounts weren't even loose! That's typically a problem area, and I was impressed that it didn't rip the gear right out...

splatt - i have two of the electrics and stopping there. while i like them all clean and neat. it just doesn't stir my soul like a glow plane. i have a clipped wing cub and a ramber EP and can't say i love them. granted both of them were nearly the first off the assembly line and i've taken them from hk to taiwan so the humidity and climate may have been to blame, but both planes were true. i had to shim the wing of the rambler about a mm to get it even with the tail feathers. they clipped wing cub wing is still bent like a politician. they both fly OK with the original setup with 11.1V lipos but nothing like glow. they feel light and are a handful flying in anything but the smallest wings. but then again, i guess that is what most people expect from small electrics.
just my 2 cents.
i saw the cap this time at the store and i have to say that it looks much better in person than in the pictures. that toughlon stuff seems to be very well put on. and of course no worries of any decals ripping off. i like this much better than the crazy stuff Vmar is putting on their polycote.
