I am thinking of getting this plane as well. I have a saito 150 or a g26, anyone have any thoughts on which motor would be a better fit? Also, any prop size suggestions for either motor? Thanks.

I have the Saito 150 on mine and it flies great, it doesn't need the power of the 150 but its there if you need it and you can always throttle back. Plus the benefit of not having to put any weight on the nose to balance makes it great. I didn't even have to install the little weight box. I do have a 26cc gas engine I would like to install for the fuel economy but I think you would have to really butcher the cowl and fake radial engine too much. just my opinion.

Thanks Randy, I was thinking the same thing. I had the 150 in a plane that really needed a smaller motor. With the ground clearance I had to go with a small prop and couldn't experiment with any others. This one seems to have the clearance for larger diameter props. What size did you find works best for the saito?

Hey Guys, This is my first Bi-Plane............where do you put the balancer? Under the top wing and is that where you measure for the COG or what where and how???????

Hi,I am considering buying one of these for my Satio 150 and the final decision will be made by one issue: how is field set-up work out? I had a Cermark Pitts that was kinda labor intense to set-up and disassemble.The problem that hardware and linkages were not meant to be taken apart so many times.Does anybody have any long-term use that could help with the question? Any feed-back would help as I can get a new plane now for about $230 shipped!Thanks for your help,Brian[8D]

I have a saito 125 in mine and that seems to be plenty of power. It flys different from my other planes in it seems slower and less responsive. I would say very scale like and it looks great in the air. The 180 would give you alot of power and may balance without the battery above the engine.

You would need the 170 radial the other one would be a bit under powered, it is a 15lb model.
Saito 180 is a nice engine and would be powerful enough.
Personally if I was doing it again I would fit a 26cc petrol, my ST2500 suits it well and sound great so would not change it, but a petrol would be my choice only other would be a proper radial.

So the Saito 180 it is. I think the 170 3cylinder saito is for .60 size planes. I see someone put a saito 170 3 cylinder on a Sopwith Camel. Sure wish I could put a radial in it. Thanks a lot guys/gals

DUH !!! I'm a retard. I didn't realize what link I sent untill you just pointed it out. I think I will still go with the 180 and use some money for a set of retracts for a P47 build I am doing. Thanks for the help!

Great aeroplane, I will fly mine at any site in any conditions, I fitted slightly bigger wheels which are more scale and you can taxi it about over the roughest ground no problem.

Think of it like a 3 view plan only with the plane assembled. Set the fuselage up so that it is level front to rear (horizontally) and top to bottom (vertically).
From the top, the leading edges will be parallel with each other with the bottom wing behind the top (stagger), equal amounts of wing on both sides and square to the fuselage. To check square, place a pin centered at the rear of the fuselage (like the rudder post). Loop a piece of string to the pin and use the string to see if the same point on each wing tip are equal, if not adjust accordingly. Check the stabilizer the same way as the wings for square only the pin will be centered at the front of the fuse. It is also a good time to check the right thrust of the engine (if any).
From the side, with the fuselage datum line parallel to the ground, both leading edges are in the proper location relative to the fuselage (stagger). It is also a good time to check the incidence of the wings and stabilizer and the down thrust line of the engine (if any).
From the front, with the fuselage aligned so the vertical centerline is vertical, both wings are horizontally aligned; both wing tips are the same distance from the ground on each wing and both wings are the same distance apart from tip to tip. It is pretty easy to see if the wings are not straight as they will be tilted or the tips will be closer on one side or the other. The rudder should be vertical and the stabilizer with be at right angles to the rudder and parallel to the ground.
