Hello. I have been flying my Superstar 40 for about a month now and i am starting to look for a good second plane. I am looking at the Goldberg Tiger 2. I was just wondering if this is a good 2nd plane, and what size engine would be good. I am wanting a plane that can do some aerobatics and has some speed.
Thanks,
Mike

Tiger 2 is a very nice 2nd plane. I like the longer wing compared to a lot of 2nd type planes and the longer length makes the plane very easy to control. It has a wide speed range and is aerobatic as well. One thing to watch for on the ARF is that the hole for the throttle cable is pre-drilled in the wrong spot (unless they corrected that). Not a big deal, just seal it with a drop of epoxy and redrill in the right spot. The kit is set up so that you can make it either a trike gear or as a taildragger if you buy your own main gear. I would suggest makeing it a tail dragger. Its a lot easier to set up and no main wheel assembly to get bent. Another advantage of the tail dragger setup, the plane will rest on the main wheels and the tail wheel with out needing the wing attached because the main landing gear is on the fuselage just ahead of the wing saddle. Makes it easier to transport. Good engine choice would be the OS 46AX. Stick a 11-5 APC prop on it and hang on! A 10-7 would also work well. I have an ASP Super 52 which is extremly powerful but is finicky for the first 5-6 tanks. If you want an easy to adjust no nonsense engine that puts out good power right out of the box, go with the OS. If you are good with engines and have patience then you might want to try the ASP. I have both so talking from experience here.[8D]

I flew one of my buddy's Tiger 2. I'm still on my first plane two BTW. His Tiger is his second plane and he love's it. He's flying his with an Evolution .46. With an 11/6 prop. Man it screams. Definetly a fun fast plane. I would get it as my second plane but I don't want the same plane he has. I'm stepping up to an H9 Aresti 40 with an YS 63. I know pretty big step but like they say "Go big or Go home" Good luck with your tiger.

The Tiger2 was my second plane, and still one of my favorites. It's a perfect second plane, and one you'll never get tired of IMO. I'm still flying a Tiger60 15 years later.

The Tiger 2 is a great plane. I built and ARF as a taildragger with a K&B .65. It's a lot of engine so I just run it slow. I say get one.

Add me to the list of Tiger 2 advocates! Just maidened mine with an OS 46FX and it was a dream to fly once I got the pitch sensitivity dialed down. After that it practically landed itself. Mine came already built (a friend's dad was getting out of the hobby, and it was given to me already built, ready to fly). One thing you have to be careful of, check the c/g carefully! Mine kept tipping back on the tail when the tank was empty. I put several ounces of lead under the engine and it was still tail heavy! Finally used a "heavy hub' instead of a spinner, and it balanced perfectly then. Maiden flight was yesterday and it really is nice to fly, for all the reasons already stated above. I don't think you'd regret getting one! good luck! Picture of mine is attached.

I also have a Goldberg Tiger 2. Mine also has an OS .46 AX on it with 11x6 prop. The plane flies awesome! Predictable and lands nice, not too "floaty" like the 3D stuff but not fast like a warbird. If you get one and with a OS .46 or an Evo .46, mount your engine
close to the end of the mount rails. Reason is these engines weigh about 16 oz. and if mounted per instructions, you might be a tad tail heavy. My only complaint is with the white trim covering. Some of it has come off.
