Anybody out there flying this combo ?
If so , what prop are you using ?
For the first flight I'd like to at least start in
the ball park rather than play the "prop game."
Thank you to all who respond
Regards
Roby

Hi Robby,
Don't put a glow engine in your pitts. Its a waste of money. Try
a ZDZ 50 or a taurus engine to get this bird flying. My pitts is
powered with a Taurus 3.2 and believe me that's a showstoppers! (unlimited vertical) Also Glow engines
will cost you a fortune to run, specially The OS 160.
Just my 2 cents.

Umm I have two OS 160 engines and they are easy on the fuel. Now my Moki 180 and 210 thats a different story as they love to drink. Myself I like the big glow engines, light and powerful leads to better flying. I like to fly so I spend the cash on glow fuel, no biggie to me. I do like gas also, in a bigger planes( 80" and up), but hey everyone has an opinion.

I understand your point. However here in canada we pay $40.00 bucks for a gallon of nitro so running big Glow engines is very
expensive . With the new generation of lightweight engine like the ZDZ ,Taurus, weight is no longer a performance issue with gasser. I ran glow for several years but I preffer new generation gaz engine for larger scale plane like the Pitts. 5 gallon of fuel for
my pitts cost me 15 bucks and it is good for all the summer compared to a gallon of nitro wich you can burn in one week end with a Big glow .
But will always enjoy my .90 Surpass in my giles.
Just my 2 cents

Several weeks ago I posted a thread asking "besides the
cost of fuel , exactly what is the advantage ? I didn't get
any takers so presumed that apparently there are none .
The cost of fuel is not an issue here, ........it's prop size and
only prop size.
SO ,I now have a new OS 1.60 FX in the cowl of my GP Pitts
ARF .
I now ask the question again.
Is anyone flying this combo , and if so what prop are you
currently using ?
Regards and thanks anyway

If you go with a 160FX you are going to need a lot of lead in the nose. I would suggest going gas. To give you an idea one of the guys at the field has a G62 and it balanced perfect. You don't need a G62 for power to fly this plane. His is way overpowered with the G62. I myself would look at a BME 50, G45, Or ZDZ50.

I think the O.S. 1.6 will do fine, if you are looking for scale performance. If you want unlimited vertical go gas, if you want great vertical and a glow engine then get a Moki 2.1. I have bought a US Engines 41cc for mine, I am not expecting stellar vertical performance nor do I want it for a Pitts.
Serge1. $40.00 a gallon?? Where are you buying your fuel? I pay $26 Canadian for 15% fuel, Powermaster, Byron, Morgan its all the same price at my local shop.

Dam you have great deals... I got my fuel from CMR at St-jerome quebec. Paid 37$ with taxes (four stroke fuel)... You got a US 41
for your pitts?? Good engine but you will be decepointed with that
combo. I did the same when I got my pitts and the US engine barely pull away the big plane. Also that engine won't get you
out of trouble. That big pitts needs a lot of power and speed to fly well. If you upgrade your engine dont forget to pin the
firewall and put some fiberglass on weak point. The OS is
a great engine but not for that planes. With the OS in the
nose you need a tons of weight to balance the plane.
Just my 2 cents.
BTW, Nice website!

I don't have a Pitts YET but I fly the 160 in an 11 lb One Design and have tried a Zinger pro 18X8 and an APC 18X8 wide. I liked the Zinger a little better. The vertical seeed stronger. Both had a good mix of speed and vertical.

Pittsguy, I used the stock muffler on my Fuji 50 and the plane balanced right on the money with no weight added. BTW, hack off that crappy box on the firewall and the spinner ends up right where it should be. As for flying this plane with a glow motor, I don't think you are gonna enjoy it much. A 160 just doesn't have enough punch.

Well, I know many won't like this news, but mine, when new with a ZDZ 40 just did NOT have the punch I wanted....I love the tumble-bug airshow type stuff the Pitts excels at, and the 40 wouldn't give me recovery power.
Then - After a hefty investment - I bolted on the Taurus T-52. And almost immediately had to reinforce the firewall. But it sure turned this beauty into a beast.....
I've owned and run OS 1.6 on Caps, etc. Wonderful with a Master Airscrew 18 x 8, but on the 14 lb Pitts, it ain't gonna make it. At least not "fun"....IMHO, of course.
