Hey Folks,
I got a Rascal 40 for a relaxing, fun plane , you know, a break from the war birds I love.
Jeez, is that engine install a pain in the butt.
The Tigre .45's big carb requires major surgery to fit it in. My question though is how is the inverted 2-stroke working out for you guys ? They got the tank height right, but I've always avoided inverted engines, probably for no good reason as long as the tank height is right.
I'd appreciate any feed back on the airplane anyone offers !
Thanks, Doug

From: Phoenix, AZ,
I've got a Rascal 40 with a four stroke. My experiences might apply to two strokers, First, I installed a remote glow igniter, because of the awkwardness of attaching the glow igniter on the inverted engine. Second, I've found that if the airplane sits too long, fuel collects where the glow plug sits in the cylinder head, making it difficult, if not impossible to start. I always charge the battery the night before flying with the airplane upside down so the fuel doesn't collect, then at the field, start the engine/fly often so the fuel doesn't have time to collect. Other than that, no problems at all. Hope this helps.

I suppose if you wanted to, you could cut the front end off the Rascal at the firewall, and mount the engine sideways, then fashion some sort of cowl, or use the piece you cut off. The engine mount has right thrust built in, so you'd have to duplicate that with whatever mount you used.
I love my Rascal, it's my "daily driver". I wish Sig would make it in kit form, in a size about half way between the 40 and the 110, wingspan about 85 inches, use a .65-.90 engine

I have a Rascal 40 for the same reason, a relaxing plane to fly. It has a 4 stroke inverted with the on board glow. I use a switch on the transmitter to activate the glow. I like that set up better than 1/4 throttle. The on board really makes the plane a pleasure to start and trouble free idle.
I highly recommend the onboard.
