H9 stick .40 or .60 ???

I've been flying for about 1 1/2 yrs. and have my mind pretty much set on the Hangar 9 Stick for a step up from the trainers I've been flying. And was wondering if you all could give an opinion on which is better. The .40 size or the .60. And which engine to use on them. I have an os .46sf and a MDS .68.

I can't comment on the 60 size from flying experience, only that the color scheme makes it hard to distinguish top from bottom. I've got the 40 size with a Saito 72 and it's a blast to fly. Probably becoming my most favorite airplane. I just acquired the 120 size for a ST3000 I've got and if it's half as fun and good flying it'll soon become another favorite. The engines you've got listed would work accordingly with their respective size planes and I haven't seen one of the Ultra Stick's yet that didn't fly beautiful! I guess it's mostly gonna be a matter of preference on your part and I highly recommend any of the above.

I have a 40 size with a Saito 72. This is my favourite plane as I can do anything I want with her and she responds obediently. She is easy to fly and easy to land.
I agree about the 60 size being difficult to distinguish in the air however the 40 was the same until we cut square 'Peel & Stick" Ultracote and created a checkered bottom....no problem now. 72 is a must for the 40 and a friend is using a ST 90 on his 60 size.
Either size is fun however the 1.20 is not recommended as a fun flyer and I have heard lots of complaints about it - too slow, not as responsive etc. If I wreck my 40 then I'm getting a 60 size.

I'm currently flying the 40 size US, and it is a BLAST!! I have a Thunder Tiger 46 pro in the nose, and I needed to move the battery pack to behind the servo tray for balance, but other than that it's been great...just enough power to hover up here in the high country of New Mexico. The only problem I've had is the tail gear, the one that comes with the kit is junk, it broke after 3 easy landings...get a good quality tail gear, like a Sullivan, and you'll have no problems. I have a Saito 72 to put into the plane, but right now it's in a Sig Somethin' Extra, and I'm having too much fun with it to take it out...fun is that Name of the Game!!!

I saw the same problem with another one that I saw flying recently, so I modified mine while building it. Plus I have a smaller plane done in essentially the same color scheme (red with transparent yellow Ultracote) and it had terrible visibility until I added some wide white stripes. The white helps it really stand out now.

Thanks all for all the good comments. Both my trainers are .60's. So maybe it's time to learn to fly something in the .40 size. Just to see if I like it and then go up to the .60 size later.

I think you'd really be happy with the US40. I have a Thunder Tiger Pro .46 on mine and it is all I need for power. Cant go straight out of sight vertical, but who cares. This is only my 2nd year of flying and I handle it with no problem. I cant believe how easy it slows down for landings. It slows down easier than my H9 Easy2 trainer did with the same engine and prop combo for landings. I did go with the tailwheel assembly that came with it, even though it was a pistol to install. It has held up after about 15 landings and several first time touch-n-go's that I did today...they are a blast! There has been alot of complaints about the tailwheel if you haven't heard. The planes also goes together very fast-much faster than any arf I have done. Had it together in just two nights. As you can tell, I really love the plane.

Both the 40 and 60 size are a lot of fun and great flying planes, but to me the 60 size just feels "lighter" in the air. It's much lighter for it's size than the 40 (i.e. lighter wing loading), it seems to stall much slower, and "crow" mixing seems more effective too. A Saito 100 is perfect - hovers/TR's at about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle and pulls out vertically with authority.
Either way, you'll really enjoy an UltraStick!

If you look at all the data, the 60 comes out with the lowest
wing loading. I have a us 60 with a magnum 91 four stroke. I
love it. It's the best. It flies as slow as you want it to.
