Fitting the cowl up, noticed that it is VERY flexible, almost sort of rubbery-feeling. Not soft, just super flexible. Seems like that would be un-good with a gasser....so...I stiffened mine around all the cutouts, spinner ring, cooling holes, and the aft edge with thin CA.....the stuff actually warmed as it was kicking, which makes me realize this is a VERY porous resin on the inside (if it's resin at all).

I'm thinking something needs doing on the inside of this beauty to protect it.

Anyone else noticed this? Solutions?

My cowl is also very flexible. I wouldn't say mine is rubbery, but it isn't exactly the most sturdy fiberglass cowl I've ever had. What I'm doing on mine is to glue pieces of thin rubber on top of the mounting blocks to help absorb some of the vibration. For the rubber pieces, I just used some thin washers I bought at a hardware store that I cut to size. Maybe it would help on yours in addition to what you've already done.

Bob,

I notice that my cowl was the same way. I was trying to decide if it was that way on purpose to help with vibration or if I needed to add some fiberglass layers to the inside to stiffen it.
