Is this thing released yet?

I have heard that my Hawk kit is on the way right now. They're out of stock already, probably because of backorder filling.
Next batch due in mid-December.
I'm using an OS 120. The gasser idea didn't pan out. Way too wide and not all that reliable.
I have a G-26 but that one is even wider.
Who's gonna be the first one to get their Hawk in the air?

Mine shows that is due for delivery today -- engine should be here tomorrow -- hopefully with a little luck it will fly by Sunday -- if the weather here holds

I ordered my RCV 120 the other day -- looks like it will be a perfect match -- with less cutting of the cowl than any of the other engines of its size -- I will post some pics when I get the engine mounted.

I will be interested to see if you have any cooling issues. (I have that engine in a box waiting for a home!)

I too, have a Hawk on the way from Tower. Shipped yesterday I believe. Mine is definitely going to have a 3-3.5 pound gasoline engine on her. Most likely a Zenoah G-26. A careful reading of the manual states that this plane requires 16 oz of lead in the nose if you use the recommended 1.20 4-stroke. I talked to GP about the gas engine issue. they stated that they just had not got around to trying the plane with a gasser. But the very idea of using a glow engine and then having to put a pound of weight in the nose makes me want to
upchuk.

Yep, it's always nice to have nose weight that generated horsepower!
My Stearman didn't need nose weight. I put the throttle servo, receiver battery and onboard glow battery just above the engine (used a LARGE receiver battery!)

I've done a lot of research on engine weight issues and the P-6E. That 16oz of required nose weight is an issue. While I am leaning toward the G-26 one of the new compact 30cc gasoline engines like the MVVS or RCS engines seem to meet the CG/weight issue. A 20cc gasser will probably fly her pretty good; but a 35cc that solves all weight issues would give her outstanding performance. Especially since mine will have smoke on her. I may have to complete the entire plane and then do some balancing and make an engine decision.

Are you getting a Stearman or the new Curtis Hawk? The Stearman needed the added nose weight even with the OS 120. The book for the Hawk says that added nose weight is only needed with engines at the lower end of the power recommendation. But time will tell.
The G-26 carb will definitely stick out one side and the muffler will stick out the other.
Not so on the Stearman. The round cowl hides a lot of stuff.

I'm talking about the P-6E Hawk. On page 30 of the manual it states they needed 16oz of nose weight using the recommended O.S. 1.20 4-stroke engine [
].
This plane screams for a gasser
. I don't know what the cowl demensions are yet; but that's why I am also looking at one of the new high performance 30's like the RCS or MVVS engines. They definitely will fit. Of course, if you wanted to spend the money, a Laser 160 or 200v would fit [X(]

Don't ya just love it when they wait until the end of the manual to find the "fine print" that says you need a pound of nose weight?
That'll be a JEER for sure....

I'm gonna trial fit my OS120 to see how much cowl will have to be cut. I'm certain the RCV will fit nicely, just worried about providing enough cooling. My order on Tower show "processing in Warehouse" but not that it's shipped. Sure hope that means I got one and I don't have to wait!

Tower states they are all gone until mid to late Dec. -- I might be a little worried if yours doesn't show shipped yet. Just checked tracking #'s on mine and it shows a scheduled for delivery tomorrow. I will post some pics tomorrow evening and do some measuring to give you guys some ideas on engine demensions. I know that with a g26 there won't be much of the pretty cowl left if you use the supplied can muffler

Mine was shipped today! Just checked the status. What's weird is that they opened a new order number. I still have one on backorder from Oct 20th which is when I ordered mine. The one that shipped was orderd (according to them) on Nov 28th. As much as I'd love to have two, I think I'd better call and straighten it out. Can't wait to see the pictures!

I haven't even been around enough to finish the stearman.
I want a Hawk, always have, but until the stearman is done, and the funds increase, it will have to wait. On the bright side, everyone else can figure out the best set up, then I can use it!!!!

I got mine yesterday. Tower has them for $449 plus $7 handling and $30 (to me in Il.) There is a special $40 off if you order b4 12-31-05 Add# 011ND. BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!! This one's goimg to be built REAL SLOW (I don't want to make any mistakes). I'll use a sato 120, just like on the stearman. The monocoat is perfect and the paint on the fiberglass is great. The scallops on the wings are really what makes it special. It comes with a carry handle just like the stearman. It's now on their web--check it out.Fly high!

Hi Guy's,
The tower price for the P-6E is $449.00 if you use the $40.00 off copon in the latest Tower Talk it reduces the price to $409. and mine was shipped free. $409.00 to your door for this bird is a GREAT Price.

Well, I went over to HH last weekend to check out the Hawk. So, I am guessing you must have bought it Chasrb, since the box wasn't around for me to riffle through.
