Default Pw With Bme 50

For those of you debating what set up to use, about three weks ago I had the same problem, what engine to use, I finally ordered the bme 50 from cheif despite a lot of people worrying about vibration. Well here is how it tuned out, I put the bme 50 in using the gp mount adapted the way someone on this site said to do it. the mount works great and also you wont have to build up the firewal to get the 7 inches you need. As far as vibration, I am running the 50 with a mejlik 22-10 15%, after dialing inthe carb I am getting minimal vibes nothing i did not expect as far as power , when I first took the pklane out for its maiden flight a freind of mine wanted to nose it up and see if it was to lean(I guess he has not had much time with gassers) when he did this I throttled up and he was amazed that the plne wanted to go vertical from his hands. After thi it was time to fly. All I can say about this set up is it works for me . Anyone wanting to use this engine, put it in and hold on the vertical will amaze you
Just My two cents

The BME 50 and the Taurus3.2 are VERY VERY similar powerplants. I had both of them and used the exact same props on both of them (the both have the 7/16 prop shaft) and they turned the same prop at the same rpm.

I even used a MENS S 19x10 3 blade. I got very good performance with this prop...it turned around 6600 rpm

Hope to fly my PW today with a Taurus 2.7-- I rigged a tank mount for a 12oz Hayes fuel tank just in front of the wing tube. I also had to extend the engine out about 1" and with 4 servos in the tail and the battery pack mounted at the back of the canopy it balances perfectly.

Yep....that BME has POWER!!! I have a Midwest Extra w/BME50, at 15lbs the thing will go vert however you want to go.

I like to slow it down to just a crawl about 5feet off the deck, and slowly point the nose up vertical, and it doesn't even feel it, and will climb out very slowly, until I want otherwise, and as I reach full vertical, I add power, and it accelerates out...---STRAIGHT UP!!! Hover....no prob. I'm practicing that all the time. Torque rolls...well..I've got 3 consecutive so far...not too bad. That one's tough though.

The more you run it, the looser it gets. I've got 5gallons through mine now, and am getting glimpses of a major beast. I'm now noticing it's taking less and less throttle to go vert. Less then half throttle will take her up accelerating.

It's quite amazing,,,and dazzles onlookers... try it sometime. There's alot of thrust there, enough to tear a well built plane apart if you don't manage that throttle. Be careful, but have fun. It only gets better.
