Default Construction booklet for Cap 232

Hi:

Recently acquired a Cap 232 ARF 120 size by Hanger 9 . It was new in box except for the
construction booklet.

Since the man I purchased it from is now deceased, I can't ask him where it is.

Would like to know the suggested balance point, throws, thrust line etc. Any suggestions?

Also, this plane has been around a while and I would like to learn of your experiences with it, good or bad.

Thanks,

Oldie

Unfortunately, HANGAR-9.com isn't very helpful. Have your tried the number on the horizon hobbies web site?

Okay:
Keep the servos out of the tail. This plane has a VERY NASTY tendancy of building out tail heavy. Not just a little tail heavy either. I'm talking REALLY BAD BAD BAD tail heavy. So heavy that you'll end up putting over 1/2 pound of lead in the nose if you put any servos in the tail.

If your using a gasoline engine--you might get away with servos in the tail. Glow engine? Keep the servos up front.

Mine was 11.75 pounds. Flew light. Flies like it's on rails. Goes where ya point it and locks in. Very solid Pattern plane. Pretty decent 3D plane for an older design. A lot of guys claimed that it wouldn't 3D without snapping out of walls and harriers. Thats because they didn't have enough throw cranked in on the elevators and rudder. Crank up the throw and get as much as you can and it'll harrier and hover all day long. Set your hinges a bit on the loose side and seal your hinge gaps with covering. Make sure you got 45 degrees of throw or MORE if you want 3D out of it.

3D--fly it as hard as you can!!! Fly it friggin' HARD!! DON'T fly it fast. There's a difference between flying a plane hard and flying it fast. Fly it fast and you'll rip the control surfaces off.

Over power it!!! Hang a great big engine on the firewall. It's gonna be tail heavy anyway--so counteract it with a big honkin' engine.

It lands easy. It won't overrotate in snaps and rolls if you keep it under 12 pounds.

I had 2 elevator servos. Mounted then IN THE TANK COMPARTMENT and ran pushrods all the way back to the tail. Had to cut the bottom open and brace the pushrods behind the wing saddle. I can send you pics if you need to see my setup. I had a ST3000 on the firewall and I needed BOTH elevator servos about 3" behind the firewall. I needed my rudder servo on pull-pull right behind the CG. Should have moved it forward even more. Throttle servo on the firewall. 2 RX batteries right up against the firewall. Both of them were 1650mah 6V MH batteries. RX on between the elevator servos on the tank compartment floor. Tank on a balsa stand on top of the RX and batteries batteries and elevator servos. Needless to say---the tank compartment was a bit cramped.

BUT, I got it balanced without adding lead. Weighed 11.75 pounds and I LOVED it!!! Lost it when a hitec servo locked up full left rudder and I spiraled it into the ground in an inverted flatspin that I couldn't get out of because of the rudder being locked up full left.[:@]

It's a nice plane.

RCPilet:

Thanks for the information. It was exactly the kind of information regarding this plane that I have looking for.

Its great to know the thing flies well, and good to be forewarned of the balance problem.
