I'm trying to find out about the availability of the Kyosho Gee Bee Z .40.

Has this ARF been taken off the market ?

And if and when it does become available again, can it be flown successfully ? I have talked to Jim about this model in the past, but would like to review it with someone, anyone, again please. I would like to buy one. Help !

What has happened to this great looking model ?

Default geebee z

i bought this one in dez 2001 (www.lindinger.at)
it has now 7 flights and the flight performance is very good (unless the engine stops)
also are landing characteristics (you have to pull full up elevator when its on the ground, otherwise it will do several negativ loopings on the ground )
i cut the wheel fairings to have more ground clearance
engine is a OS 91 FX

not a super aerobatic plane, but one with a superb look

MEC, & others: I put my CG at 25% of the wing cord, regardless of what the plans showed, and this worked out well. This amounts to 2.5" back from the leading edge of the wing.

Regarding ground handling, well if you don't mind deviating from scale a little bit, then you might consider spreading the main gear a little. You can re-drill the holes that accepts the LG gear anchor stubs, 2" out from the existing ones on each wing. This results in increasing the wheel stance 4". The aircraft still looks good, and is a lot more pleasant during rollout after touch-down. Like no wing dragging, or ground looping !

Oh, regarding availability, I don't have a clue.

Default kYOSHO GEE BEE Z

I have completed building one of these kits and flown it with a Thunder Tiger Pro .46. It was difficult to get into the air off grass using a APC 10/6 prop. I then switched to a Master Airscrew 11/6 with much better results. I have an OS 52 2 stroke and considered using it as the .46 seems to be underpowered for this plane. Any prop suggestions for the OS 52 s stroke?
I am supprised someone has mounted a OS .91SF on this this model and flown this combination. How did the model ground handle and land with that much torque? Also, what prop did you use ? Thanks for your input

Default O.S. .91FX

I used an O.S. .91FX on mine, and balance came out just about perfect. The plane will need nose weight with smaller engines.

The .91 is a bit too much, but the airframe appears structually capable of the loads.

I made several 120 mph+ passes, and this thing hauls pretty good.

Take offs are fine if you can move the rudder stick. It really doesn't stay on the ground all that long. Landings are tricky, I've done a somersault or two, but I'm learning. The plane will slow down, if you let it. My first couple landings I tried to bring in Warm, and you will nose it over and flip this way. If your cg is 25-27% you willl be ok in slowing it down a bit.

These Kyosho Gee Bee Zs are NOT off the market. Tower Hobbies has them in stock as of 6-17-03.

You may want to wait for the Great Planes Gee Bee R-1 to come out though. It's bigger and IMO even cooler! They are coming in the next month or two.
