I have an Aresti with a OS 46FX
If you have this plane with this engine what prop do you recommend is the best?
What do you use?
What is a good prop for vertical as well as speed performance, like a good all around for this plane?
And also I am using those APC props(the gray plastice ones with not flat but pointy edges on them)

just an all around good prop would be an APC 10x6

Had a Tai-Ji .40 (very similar) with this engine, that flew very well with an 11 x 6 or 7.

I am running a 12.25x3.75 APC with a 46fx engine. I tried apc 11x6 11x7 and 12x6 and this prop works the best for me. Try it you will like it. George

Thanks guys for the prop help but aquaskiman, you said you recommend a 12.25X3.75 prop yet if you calculate its Propeller load factor Diameter(squared) X Pitch the props plf comes out to 562 and yet they recommend something near 800 for the 46Fx or lower , but isnt the 562 plf to low. If you look at the nomograph that displays what speed youre prop can put out with what rpms you have (im using 1200 rpms on the scale because I think thats what my os 46fx should put out) the chart says the 12.25X3.75 can only get the plane to go 60 mph. Is the aresti airframe designed to go faster because most people have recommended the 11X6 for me which has a plf of 726 and will push the plane 80mph and the 11X7s plf is 847(might be a little high) and pushes the plane 100mph,, im really not sure which prop to use now, is youre 12.25X3.75 making youre plane go good good vertical and good acceleration but low top speed compared to the 11X6?

andrewlily, I think your missing the point everybody is trying to make here. For starters you are spendind WAY TO MUCH TIME trying to anilize the situation. Second if you really think that fx46 is going to pull your aresti in excess of 100 mph I want some of whatever it is your on. Third nobody who knows how to fly does it at full throttle all the time, that is only used on the up lines and even then not all the time. The best prop for your plane will be the one that YOU like the best, and the only way to find it is to try as many combinations as possable. A prop is a collection of trade-offs and the list of variables is almost endlist. No two motors run the same, altitude and humidity have a major effect, nitro content, plane weight, flying style, plane set-up and many more. One of the nice things about small engines like yours are that props are cheap, this gives you time to learn before you get to the big gassers and props cost 20-30 dollars or more each.
I think you will find this kind of expirmenting is part of the fun, and in the long run will make you a better pilot.

You ask some excellent questions based on sound reasoning.

Filip and I read the thread a couple of days ago and went out and bought an APC 12.25" x 3.75" prop. We're going to test it tomorrow on Filip's OS 46. We're guessing it will have more pull and naturally less top speed. This might be the prop to use for freestyle type aerobatics.

An APC 10-7 is usually the ticket for the most topend on these motors as can be attested to at most T-34 races.

We'll report back on our findings. Please let us know how you make out, too, Andrew. :-)
