3Demon by Modeltech anyone?

This looks like a nice light 3D plane. Does anyone have any input about it? Someone must be buying them, because they are out at the moment. I am looking for a home for my Webra 35, and this might be it. And look at the sale price on the Magic, $79.

They have not been released here in the UK yet, my son has been flying the prototype for nearly 12 months now, powered by an old OS46fx, all up weight 4 1/2lb as you can imagine there is more than enough power. Flight characteristics, knife edge with ease, prop hanging, my son has worn the rudder out touching the ground all the time, will loop in just about it's own length, it will do all you ask of it and more.
If you look under the video section in the gallery there is a promo video I did a while back http://www.wmmfc.co.uk/

Thanks Kinverflyer. That is what I was hoping to hear! It looks like a real cute and nicely finished plane too. Do you think my Webra 35 would work if I tried to keep everything real light?
Thanks,
Ernie

Thanks! Well, I do want to use the Webra 35 somewhere, and I am already flying an Uproar with an OS 32 on it. Amazingly, that little 32 gives it unlimited vertical with an 11x3 APC prop. I am hoping I could do about the same with the Webra on the 3Demon. We will see! Thanks again,
Ernie

I just Finished my 3Demon. OS 32 with moose can pipe, 720 4 cell NIMH, 2 HS81MG in the wing, 2 HS80's on elevators, HS225 on rudder, and HS81 on throttle, JR610 Rx. I didn't use their linkage, mounted the engine at 90 deg for better placement of my pipe, added a tail wheel, I used pinned hinges in place of the CA hinges, the rest is stock. AUW no fuel is 3lbs 11oz.
I haven't flown it yet, but I will ASAP..

Just finished an electric version using 650 watt motor and 5 cell lipo, unlimited vertical and flight times of 12 minutes + of full 3D flying.

Hi Ernie, thanks for the kind words. Yes it is a Mac's, long offset. I cut enough off to go in the front of my moose can, moose can exit pipe I did not really tune the length, just winged it, when Ibuilt a second one I made it just like the first. It works good enough for me!

Well, at the longer, stock lengths, you will have a setup that is "always on the pipe". No peaky horsepower or jumping up on the pipe at a certain rpm. That is very good news for 3D type flying.
I have an Uproar with the OS 32 and a mac's one piece muffler. With an APC 11x3 prop it really comes alive and has unlimited vertical.
On the combat planes, they run the header way back inside of the can and get 20,000 rpms out of them!

Just got my 3Demon in the mail today, Build quality looks very good, covering looks excellent, no wrinkles even! Will do the "build" and radio install this weekend. Just have to wait 2 more weeks for my Jett BSE76L swinging a 14x4W....... Should be enough power

From: Center of the Flyover States,
That single "strand" of music wire landing gear looks weak. Will it hold up during a normal landing without compressing and getting the prop into the ground? Sits pretty with the .32 and pipe otherwise? Just wondering.

Yes, serious about the Jett 76. It's the same size as an OS46 and a touch lighter. Swings an APC 14x4W at about 10,500, should be fairly quiet. Plus I've always wanted a Jett. I can always throttle back and the engine is more of a 3D engine, not like most of the other Jett's. About the same power as a Saito 82.
I had similar gear on a Modeltech magic and it was pretty weak, a hoop added (copper wire and solder) between the legs stiffened it up alot, but not too much. Just looking at it, I can tell this one is going to need a hoop too. The grass fields I fly from are pretty rough on smaller planes, long grass and some bumps.

The single strand wire is like 5/32" wire, its very stiff. Infact I broke out the mounting blocks on the softest of cross wind landings. I ended up laying some fiberglass clothe to strenghen up the blocks. I'm affraid my 3Deamon was very short lived, it had an unscheduled meeting with one the many lamppost scattered about our flying field. This occured on the second tank of fuel.

Sorry to hear about that Mark, you just barely knew her.
At least it's not too expensive and it's an easy build. I stand corrected on the gear, It is 5mm aluminum? rod, pretty stiff stuff and really light too! I'm going to fly it as is.

Got a 3Demon myself. Had a Magnum .52 in it and it flew great, 3D's, unlimited vertical, etc. The rear bearing went out, blowing the crankshaft surface for the connecting rod (clunks when it turns). Will repair later. Needed a replacement in a pinch, so went with a Saito .62 4-stroke (always wanted a 4-stroke). Some may say it may be overpowered, but based on my flying experience with the .52, I don't think so. It weighs the same or less than the .52 and seems to give the same static pull. It has that wonderful 4-stroke sound and unbelievable transition speed from idle to full bore. Had to pitch the cowling for now since it was hogged out for the .52 so it's not as pretty an airplane.
Just broke in the engine, going through about 4 tanks of gas to do so (I'm very careful and followed the manual to the T
). Need to rebalance the plane with the new engine, but based on the power delivered by this new engine, I think I'm going to love it. Been too windy to fly but am hoping for tomorrow. I'll keep you all posted on how it turns out- maybe some cool pictures too. I attached one picture here when I had the Magnum in it. It is a good looking plane and my bear loves to fly it.
