Hey fellas,
I wanted the RC community to be aware that the popular hots (ARF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)will be coming to a LHS near your. THis post is a little premature but there is a reason for it.
Dan Santich (Original Hots Designer) created the Hots and now his son is now moving toward creating an ARF line. The Arf will be available in the original HOT HOTS version and curently there is a park flyer version being developed. Also in development is a true 3D version of the hots being developed. As of this evening the 3D hots is about 25% complete. How do I know? Because it's in my workshop!!!
What we would like to know from the RC community is your input into what you would like to see in the hots and also any of your recommendations.
The picture shown here is S Santich holding the original Hot Hots. The 3D version being developed has Quad Flaps, Dual Elev, 20% larger rudder, 40% larger Elev (Larger control surface shorter stab), 10" additional Wingspan w/ washout built in (much like a Seagull harrior or U-can-do).
When the 3D version is complete in 2 weeks, I will post pictures of it.
Please let us know what you think and any questions/comments welcome.

I'm flying the little Midwest kit one. It's a jewel. Guess it's 20 years old now???
It happened to have a minor problem that might have been just that version. It's gear was so short you were stuck with no options on the prop, so you really couldn't put a much bigger engine on it because that would have needed a bit more fan and it was maxed out already.
Hope y'all are going to bring out a .46 size and would rather have the regular type over the 3D one. Guess if I go fly at RAMS I'd get to see the development ones, right.... <grin>

Here you go guys "The Original Hots"! Club member had this kit in his attic for over 15 years and would not let it go. Took me 6 months of bargaining to pry it loose from his hands. Built it July 05 & luvvv this plane! Three mods done to it. Extended the nose by 1/2" to accept an 8 oz tank, extended the rudder 1/2" & of course carbon fiber on the main spars. OS 46AX & macs muffler in the nose and it rips!!!

There was several original versions:
Hot Hots
Super Hots
Utra Hots
Dan Santich also Desinged several other planes:
Cobra (Biplane with Midget Mustang fuse) AWESOME PLANE! Wings look sorta like an X-Wing Fighter
Miss Sanbernadino
I'm working now working on the 3D Hots based on the Hot Hots design

Since you asked - there have been two hots at our field in addition to the Super Hots I own and fly regularly. My super Hots must be at least 20 years old, has gone through several owners, and is equipped with an OS91FX. Yes the plane is heavy; it is also nearly indestructable, very fast and aerobatic, a complete adrenalin rush to fly even after years of flying it. I have often wondered why these kits disappeared. I don't think anyone who ever owned any version of the Hots has regretted it. It is just about the most fun all-round plane ever designed. Now as to your ARF version - I don't know. There are hundreds of 3D planes out now. There are not that many models capable of aerobatics and high speeds. Whatever you come out with, don't loose that speed capability or that unique Hots triangular design. I'll post a pic of mine later.
If you want to sell a million of something come out with a Cobra Arf.

Yes I remember The Midwest Hots. I built several there was even a third scaler out there ! I would buy one in Arf configuration and am waiting to see it come to market. I also would like to see any retro kits put out have main gear tall enough for electric conversion.

This is great news!!! Flew the Super Hots .60 during 1987-88 and won almost every fun fly contest entered with it (nobody else had one, I was in Japan at the time). The plane handles fast and slow speeds equally well. A winner all around. Still have a NIB Ultra Hots kit I bought in 1988 sitting right here next to me as well as a 1986 vintage NIB Super Hots 60.
I'll be buying the ARF when it's available!
Thanks for posting the info!

Forgot to mention something in my previous posting. I also have the original Ultra Hots assembly video which I believe features Dan Santich. The quality is not very good but it does make the point. If the Santich family is not offering the video anymore and they don't have any objections perhaps I could transfer it to CD for those interested.

What's the update on the 3-d version. The original is 3-d capable..or at least my super is. I enlarged control surfaces and cut some weight. With a .60 asp and macs tuned pipe she has unlimited vertical. I saw the arf for the .40 size is now available over at http://www.dansantichmodels.com .

Can't wait until the Hots ARF comes out. I have had one I scratch built 15 yrs ago, it got detroyed last year when the wing mounting block finaly gave out and I lost the wing at about 200 ft. Can you say LAWN DART !!!! I even entered my Hots in a pattern contest when I had problems with my patterships engine, and won with it. They are one on the best flying plane ever.
Will definately be looking forward to a HOTs release.

I just finished building one from plans. Have two flights on it. Need info on CG and wing incidence. Has ST45. So far I like the way it flys. Hot Hots

I had the .40 size 'regular' Hots, the profile Fun Fly Hots (scratch built, loads of fun at 3.5 lbs) and my fav, the Ultra Hots, my first real Big Bird. They are such excellent planes.

Wow, this is great news!
My first hots was the Super Hots. I put a YS60 with a pipe on it and it was the star of the show at Mile Square Park in Orange County, CA. That was 16 years ago and we didn't know about hovering but I bet it would have done it with the right CG. I built three 40 size Hots and ran YS45's with pipes on those. Absolutely amazing planes. Just before I got out of the hobby I scratch built a Big hots and put a 45CC gasser in it. It would go vertical until you quit. I just got back into the hobby about 4 months ago and was really surprized that no one was offering the Hots kits anymore. What a shame. I ordered a set of plans for the Ultra Hots, thinking I could use a Ryobi conversion in it. I haven't started it yet and I'm told that the Ryobi may not be enough engine for it.
Very interested in an ARF or kit for the beloved Hots.
I would buy an ARF of the Cobra in a New York Minute!
Blessings, Terry

That is one annoying website. I gave up on trying to read what was available.

You are so right. Definitely qualifies as one of those Really Really Bad Web Sites. At first glance (I couldn't take much more) it looks like this guy is totally riding on his Dad's coat tails with the Hots kit/ARF business. Hopefully the new planes will be better made than his site! [:'(]

Your right, that web site stinks if it supposed to be used to sell products. I went there hoping to buy a Hots kit or short kit. Got a headache just trying to read the text with all the BS mixed in. I still don't know if they are selling anything but plans.
