Default CG Tiger 60 what engine?

The Tigers are returning next month, ala Lanier. If you have flown one I'd like your recommendation for an engine. The advertised weight RTF is 6.5-7.5 lbs. Is this fairly close to real? Thanx for the info.........Old Dutch

I don't know what mine weighed. I had a SuperTigre .61 on it. That was enough for weekend flights burning up the sky. Vertical is limited but still pretty good. If you want unlimited vertical I'd go with something around .91 2stroke or 1.2 4stroke.
Being the plane is not capable of any of the 3d aerobatics that require a plane to pull out of a hover, a good .61 is all you really need. It should quickly become a favorite plane.
One bit of advice, add more rudder and beef up the fin. Mine came off on maiden flight, and I would have liked a bit more rudder. As is, knife edge flight wouldn't hold altitude. This may have been due to lack of power I dunno. I am going to add more to my next one. (yes the other went home in the trunk of my car, in many pieces)

Well a decent .61 2 stroke is a great place to start. A light weight .91stroke more than you'll ever need. A 1.20 4 stroke simple to heavy...forget it a decent .91 far better instead.
Most of us and there are many thousands whove enjoyes tigers have increased the rudder aera /just make a bigger one.
The wonderful thing with these aeroplanes is the possiblity of placing the CG a long, long way back before things get anyway near critical.
This will cure all knife edge problem anyone is having.

Congratulations, you've got yourself a great flying aeroplane.

Default Tiger 2

I had the Tiger 2 ARF with a .46FX.It would hold a knife edge all day. We havew a fellow in our club with the .60 size kit and a 61FX and while it's OK it does lack power and won't hold a knife edge. The .91FX weighs excatly the same as the .61FX so it's a no brainer how to get more power with no added weight.

Default Engine choice

I appreciate the suggestions. It appears that there is some latitude on accepable choice, based upon what one is expecting from this model. As for loading it up for high performance, well, there are far better choices of aircraft out there for that. From your kind responses, I am going with a Magnum .91FS that I just happen to have NIB anyway. I have several of these engines in various .60 size models, and I have been very impressed with them over the past several years. Again... thanks for the responses!!.....Rich

Rich, how did your Tiger 60 fly with the Magnum .91fs? My 60 ARF is due in next week and I have this engine waiting for a home.

Default How does it fly

I'm sorry to say that I can't respond to this. I gave the plane, engine, etc. to my grandson to build and fly. We ran out of flying weather early this year, and he shelfed the project until Spring. I do believe that the Mag. .91FS will pull that Tiger around veery well, and should be enjoyable. Recently I bench broke another one of these engines and once again am very impressed with it. It will be installed in a GP Tiger Moth. I have this same engine in my H-9 P-51 and it does a fine job. The mustang weight is 8 lbs. It has a lot more drag than your Tiger, and is heavier than the Tiger by far. Therefore, that tells me that you have made a good choice. Have fun with your Tiger, and please let us know how it flys!!!.........Cheers

Well my Tiger 60 arrived early! Everything looks good. I will probably start on it Saturday (maybe). Going to try putting Hitec 225's in the tail for elevator and rudder and see how it balances. Considering the 4 stroker (what I'm using)weighs more than the 2 stroker it may balance pretty well. Probably going with taildragger also, again we'll have to see. I guess I should just make up my mind and do it!
