Mini magic extra

yes i have an os 26 fourstroke car engine in mine.the carb comes from the head and allows the 2 15/16 inch distance and allows the cowl to fit.it gives 12200rpm on an apc 10x3 giving over 4lbs of thrust.the plane is not finished yet but the engine fits superbly..

Anybody flying one with a four stroke, got an extra Saito 30. seems it would need to be mounted out to 3.3/8's instead of 2.15/16's.

Hi Dewey, I'm running an OS FS-30 on mine. Had intended to use a saito 30, but the OS fits the stock mounts a lot better. It's also easier to fit the cowl on witht he OS.
Anyhow, it's one of my favourite small planes. Although the tail surfaces look a little small, it does hover really well with the FS-30 - at less than 1/2 throttle, so punch outs can be dramatic! Best part is that it flies decently on low rates too, so you can fly IMAC patterns. Not as well as a bigger/pattern plane, but this is about as close to a freestyle plane in this size that I've tried.
Mine balances well with the battery stuffed towards the rear of the fuselage.
Hope that helps.

...I put a hobbico twinstar tank in mine for a little more fuel capicity.(4oz)

I've got an OS .25 FX in mine and it really hauls *****! I keep flight times to 5 minutes though due to the tiny tank. I've got an OS .25 LA I may end up putting in it instead of the FX save some weight... don't really need all that power...

Hi there im in the process of assembling my mini magic extra and im struggling to find suitable servos for it, as their quite small and require a fair bit of torque for the size could somebody advise me in the right direction thanks.

andy,i put blue bird max servos in mine..big enought to ballance the 4stroke i had at the front.and loads of torque.flys very well.unlimited vertical lovely sound and a very tame elevater.i put 30%expo on it thinking it would be twitchey but then took it off again.goes in the car fully setup...perfect..does exactly what is says on the tin.I put a futaba pcm 146 ip in it to save glitches on such a small thing...love it...chris

Hi Andy, sorry for the delay - been out of the country. I've been using HS81 on all surfaces. Plenty of torque even for 3D work. But they don't seem to center well and they appear to be rather "noisy" servos - I noticed increased radio interference when using them. Swapped out for another servo and the glitching goes goes away.
My choice, if cost was no object would be HS-85s or the mini JR digitals. To me, those are a little too expensive for this plane though...

thanks guys i think its going to be a toss up between the hitec hs-81 or the blue bird bms 380 as they are the cheapest and as its only a cheap aircraft i cant see the point in putting anything to expensive in it. Looks like its going to be great fun to fly tho

efish... what receiver and batt pack were you using?
I've had no problems with glitching using an Electron-6 receiver with the HS-81s... no centering problems either.

Hi pkh, I was using a KAN 650mAH NiMh receiver pack and a JR R700 receiver. Was also flying a 1200 NiMH pack at one stage. My transmitter is a JR 9XII (Or 9303 equivalent) Out of curiosity, I even tried an electron 6.
In all cases, I noticed glitching and a much shorter antanna down range test with the HS-81s. Swapped out the HS-81s for a similar number of any other servo I had lying around and my range test results increased dramatically. With the antenna up, the glitching is seldom noticable, except when flying at a particularly noisy field. Since the plane is small and I like my 3D work in close, I've never had a problem when performing manouvres.
As to the centering, I guess it could be a little subjective, but I made that observation based on my flight experience with the HS-81 as compared to a higher end servo on the same airframe/setup performing the exact same manouvers. The higher end servo just seemed to groove the plane a lot better with no input on the sticks.
Anyhow, like I said, I'm still using HS-81s on the plane - there's nothing really bad about them. Just wanted to point out that there are better performing, albeit usually more expensive alternatives.
I'm pretty much a newbie, but I hope that helps.
