Default Retracts in PTS p51

I took her out for its first flight. Pull the gear up and it turned in to a rocket even with the .46 engine in it.

Which retracts did you use / did you have to do much to fit them?
We have one that we've outgrown as a trainer and just use it as a fun plane instead - smaller wheels improved it a bit but I've been wondering what to do with it to make it more of a challenge for the boys.

I am also curious as to what retracts you used! My buddy and I had been wondering if it could be done. Apparently it can! Please share!

I used 3dx-treme.com retracts. They are great! I put smaller wheels on it (3 in robart). I mounted the retracts on maple to make sure it would stand up to the punishment. I went out ot the field today and they guys couldnt belive i didnt do somthing to the engine.

Check my gallery i got a finished pic while it was on the cg stand. I am putting the invasion stripes on it tonight.

I put the invasion stripes back on it. I only had monokoat so the silver alone just looked like duct tape.

Once you cut in to the wing you wll be surprised how the originals were installed. First i epoxied the wing together. Then I got a stick of maple 1/4 in by 3/4 inch. I epoxied it in between the wing ribs where the fixed gear goes from the wing to the ground. Used a drimel tool to cut a small notch for the strut and under it drilled a hole for the linkage. You only have to cut on ether side of the fixed gear mounting bock. I cut a hole for the retract server and made the servo mounts out of maple and epoxied 1/4 by 1/4 bass on each side of the servo mounts to connect the servo mounts to the center of the wing.

i went in to this project with the attitude if it didn't work the trash can was only a few steps away. I expect the wing to fold on me but to my surprise it didn't. I kid you not this plane flys as fast at 1/2 throttle as it did at full before the install. It looks great in the sky. Its a completely different plane.

I recommend this conversion if you board with this airplane.

Good luck.
