The C-185 fuse is almost identical in dimensions to the Beaver in overall size.

I"m big Cessna fan and I have cessna 182 Skylane 1650mm wingspan,with Magnum 8.5ccm.
This is my favorite airplane & that Cessna 185 looks very nice[8D]

Just unpacked my Cessna 185. It cost me about $530 without floats ( In South Africa). Everything is well made and seem to be quite strong. The only thing that is worrying me is the weight (14.3 lb). I want to fit it with a 26 Zenoah gas engine. Making some calculations, the Cessna's wing loading comes to 40 oz/sq ft. Is this not a bit high? The recommended wing loading is 38.5 oz/sq ft with a 120 4 stroke. If there is anybody who has flown this plane how does it handle the high wing loading especially when landing? KMP has a video showing the Cessna fly and land. I am wondering what engine they have used in the test flight and what was the total flying weight ?

So what is the verdict? worth the $$? does it fly nice?Would the Saito gasser be nice up the front?

8 bills is a lot of cabbage but it is a sweet looking plane. Why is the optional wing $100 less for the wheeled model? Maybe I can talk the wife into one for Christmas.

I have 4 long flights on mine and am really happy . I have a G-26 engine and it has all the power you will require. It needs rudder to make the nice turns and the flaps are very effective. I have put the floats up to the model and they are not in the correct position for mounting as per manuel. Do not have any pics as of yet.

Just bought one of these. Super looking bird. Will be putting a G26 up front.

Hi guys the Ems Cessna 185 as it is marketed in Australia is an exceptional model offering great value for money combined with fantatsic flight characteristics. The alterations to fit a gas motor were relatively simple. Probably the hardest job was cutting out 1/3rd of the lower firewall to box in the "Slimline" Pitts style muffler, this was done using 3 mm ply and simply cyanod into position. One thing to note is that the sides of the muffler box were extended into the main cabin former while being keyed into the fuel tank former at the bottom of the windscreen to help tie the structure back together. To 24oz tank was offset to the rite of the cabbin to make room for the receiver (XPS) the ignition cut and the Intelect 3600 6 volt receiver battery.
Early on in the build I decided to ditch the long elevator pushrods in favour of mounting 2 HS 125MGs in each tailplane half to help balance the DL 50 up front. @ 6 volt each servo develops 3.3 kg of torque which is more than adequate. The destructions describe gluing the two stab halves to the fuselage for a permanent fit with an aluminium joiner between them....hmmm says I. I decided instead to add some locating dowls, leading and trailing and screw through the bottom of the joiner bar and tailplane tailplane with a self tapping cap screw. Now my stabs are removeable!! My elevator extension leads were glued into the fuselage stab roots so that when connecting the tailplane stabs you simply plug in the leads slide the stabs home add retaining screw and your done, Very easy.

Now the original intention of the model was to have a handy size tow plane for hauling up my 6 meter 10kg Lentus sailplane. The tow point for this is just behind the trailing edge of the wing. For the release I have fitted a Multiplex glider tow release vertical in the fuse mounted to a 6mm ply flat ply plate with two vertical 6mm ribs tieing the mounting plate between two formers. The release is activated buy a 6 kg servo mounted below the release with 440 wire as the actuating pin.

Other than that the model is all pretty straight forward to put together, the only other tricky part was driving both the throttle and choke which is achieved with two servos mounted from the two central servo cutouts and are driven with 440 rod in carbon sleeves to keep them stiff this is best done before fitting the canopy with Dowcorning 732 silicone adhesive. I also mounted the rudder servo at the rear of the servo tray to give easy access and a straight run to the closed loop system. I also chose to replace the tailwheel with a leaf spring unit and also drive it from the rudder servo.
To keep the motor cool during hot summer operation in Australia with long idling times I have added rolled .6mm ply around the air intakes to force cold air over the cylinder head....5 minutes later at idle, the top of the cowl is barely warm to touch!

So how does she go..... vertical from takeoff and tows 4 meter gliders @ 65 degrees, 5 meters @45 degrees and as yet haven't towed the Lentus.

Is it worth the effort.....YOU BET

And BEST of all she balances with NO LEAD and weighs in at 6.8kg.

So next up I have just received some floats for the model and are looking forward to trying her off water, I've also been giving some thought as to how I can make scale retracts for the model that retract into the floats.

Hi Guys: I'm glad to hear the builds are going well. The engine in the video was a OS 1.20 FS we used in the test model.

Hi Again: we have our own scale Panel kits coming out shortly. It will include the injection molded Yokes and throttle levers. All color decals (Photo realistic) of the standard guages, radio stack and Glass cockpit panel options. Also included on the decal sheet will be the ignition keys, circuits, lexan for the panel etc etc etc. To complete one panel should require about 45 minutes or less.
They will be around $25.00

you could try aerotowing off water.....I can't say I've seen it done before but there were WW 2 gliders designed for just that, maybe this summer we'll have a crack at it.

Hi there Andrew is there any chance of KMP doing a larger cessna 185 perhaps in conjunction with the Australian Agent Austars-Models. having campained mine now for 12 months and nearing 200 tows and 250 landing/takeoffs I would like one to about 2.6 to 3 meter Span to fit between 100 and 157cc up front. And while were on the subject is there any chance of a bigger tiger cat too??

I just finished up my 185 a few days ago, and had my maiden flight with it last night! The thing looks and flies like a dream!! I absolutely love it to bits! I've got a 25cc poulan weedwacker engine up front. I haven't tried it on floats yet, but that will be next, anyone knows where I can get scale water rudders for my floats?
Akondor: Any chace you'd consider making replacement windows for this plane with a greenish tint? It would look an awful lot more scale I think[sm=thumbup.gif]
Looking forward to getting the instrument panel!
