Default Shipping -- Top Flite Cessna 182

Okay so here is my issue:

I bid on a Top Flite Cessna 182 RTF on the Ad's here on RC Universe. Both the seller and myself are looking for shipment methods that would be less expensive. I live in Dubuque, IA 52001 and he is from Lexington , KY 40555.

Do any of you know any other shipment methods other then UPS or FEDEX? The orginal cost of this auction was $650 so I'd like to keep the shipping cost down as much as possible...if that even is possible.

Thanks in advance!

Nick-

Wow, it's tough to ship anything that large, cheaply. Perhaps in GOOD sturdy carton(S) via commercial bus- terminal to terminal. Otherwise you are looking at 1,164 miles round trip at
20 MPG = 58 gallons of gas x $3 plus fast-food.........[:@]

Do you know any independent truckers that follow that route and could stick some large boxes in their cab????

I got a Funtana off Ebay and had it shipped VIA Greyhound bus. They called me and I went to the next town to pick it up. It only cost like 50 or less. It has been 2 or more years ago. They were very nice and gentle with the plane. The guy just put the plane in a huge box and filled it with styro peanuts. Made it here in one piece and no problems at all. They called in like 2 days and it was comming from the other side of the US. It was the cheapest and best way. Also included insurance just in case something happened..

LATER
Call your Greyhound bus terminal next to you and see what they say!

I think the problem is that the wing span on the Cessna 182 is 80" and according to the seller Grayhound cuts it off at 74". What's the wing span of your Funtana?

I shipped one Grayhound last summer. Box was 80 inches long and almost the max size for diameter. Cost was like $55ish The nice thing is on a box this size there is no room to pile anything on it so shipping damage is almost a none issue.

...but, but if you put the wing in the shipping container crosswise... even at the box being 74" long- the diagonal would be more than 80". Correct?

the last time i looked there max length was 80 inches. The 182 wing is also 80 inches. The box will actually be just a hair over 80 inches near the center on each end but when they measure it they do it on the side of the box. SOO it looks to them to be 80 inches, And as i said before thay can't stack anything on it in transit so its really pretty safe. I have shipped around 15 planes with Grayhound and never had a problem other then endingup in the wrong state and taking a extra day or two to get where they are supposed to go.
