Default DP Ultimate 40

Hi Guys,

This is the firs time I have started a post in RCU, so please forgive me if I do something wrong.
It all about the Dave Patrick Ultimate 40 that I have had lying in the box for almost 2 years now.

I maidend it yesterday and the following issues arose, that I am hoping to find answers for.

Here's the setup:
JBA 56AR 2 stroke (sweetest Engine I have ever owned, that is saying allot considering I distribute ASP/Magnum in Namibia)
5X Hitec 225MG servos
AAA 650mAh Battery (very light)
setup as per instructions.

The Plane tracked straight and lifted of after I pulled back considerably. I had to trim up about 4 clicks (probably Nose Heavy), no other trim needed.
It flies Heavy, I could slow it right down to walking pace without it stalling or dropping a Wing, but it flies heavy for some reason.

Inverted required almost 3/4 forward stick (again nose heavy) It is just not as responsive as I thought it would be??? It snaps very nice and rolls are fast and axial especially on high rates.

Could the Heavy feeling come only from the fact that it is nose heavy or am I only spoiled by flying things like the Twist 40 and Katana GS

any help appreciated

regards
driesbabe

I had and flew this plane for over 2 years before I sold it to a club mate. Your nose heavy condition is adding the the heavy feeling considerably. It actually likes to be toward the back of the recommended CG. This plane is very light and REALLY responsive. Start with the CG at recommended or maybe 1/8 inch behind the center of the CG range. Then move back until trim and inverted flight is neutral. When you get there you can begin to back the CG toward the tail. Then hang on. you will find that this plane will shock your socks off. It does everything you can possibly ask of it. It does walls and parachutes as well as flat spins with great authority. DO NOT over power this plane. The first engine I had on it was an OS 70 4 stroke and it torqued this plane into an untrimable condition that nearly cost me the plane on maiden.

Hi 65 Chevy,

Thank you for your advise, I will move the battery back toward the canopy and try again.
So far I have not noticed any torquing of the plane, even with the huge power of the 56. I have to mention though that we fly at 6000ft so the power is relative.

I will report back as soon as I have tried moving the CG.

To all,
Ever since I flat spinned my .40 size global ultimate into a pancake( Dont ask!) I have been looking for a replacement. I am stationed out of the US right now but, as soon as I get back something in this size is back on the to do list. Anyway, do you know if this plane is still available anywhere? I thought a Saito 65 would do the trick, any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

HI Stangevil29,

Here in South Africa the Dave Patrick Ultimate 40 is still available. It is marketed under a different name, and it is only available in a strange pink blue and white coloursceme, but it is Identical to Dave's Ultimate in construction and Hardware. One of the best kits I have seen.

I would not advise you to buy it here, it would be to expensive. Have a look at the new World Models Ultimate 40, seems to be a real nice one to.

regards

Driesbabe,
Thanks for the info. I have seen all of the WM ultimates fly and yes they are nice but, I love the looks of the D.P. alot more. And guess what? I just got off the phone with D.P. models and they told me that the .40 size will be back this fall. So, I will have something to look forward too.

Hallo Herr DriesBabe,

Why did you maiden your Dp without me present? We have to speak about an engine choice for my WM Ultimate. Seems to me the 70 might be a bit heavy. What about a 65?

And a good morning to you Mr Skoemba,

I wanted to get the thing flying. It was about 5 minutes to darkness on woensdag, I got to the field a bit late.
I moved the CG back by moving the battery to under the Canopy yesterday evening, I'm all excited to see how it goes on SATURDAY MORNING!!!!, get the hint.

Hey guys - I too have a DP Ultimate and absolutely love it with an OS 46 AX. Just curious if anyone knows what the incidences should be on the wings. I have never checked it and am a bit curious. Thanks. Ham870

I am pretty sure the top wing is 1 or 1 1/2 degree positive and bottom wing at zero.
