Uproar 40 with 61fx?
I have an OS 61 FX that needs a home and I've been looking for something fun to fly with more than enough power, so I've been considering getting a Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 for it...I know that it calls for a .40-.46 size engine, but I've had bad luck with this 61 being a little underpowered for the 60 size planes I've put it in. I've got it tuned good and it's peaking out in rpm about where it should for the prop size, but it just doesn't pull the bigger planes as well as I'd like (I don't like having to fly around at almost full throttle the entire time).
So what do you folks think, a good match or is it just too much? If you think the fx is too big for the uproar can you recommend another plane that would be light enough for this engine to pull around with good vertical, etc.?
Thanks,
Dave

Do you mind profiles? Check out the Mojo 60 by Paul Swaney. They are very popular on this board, and rightly so. I've got one that I can't even count the hours on and it is a blast to fly. Its designed around 60 size 2s and 91 size 4s. Its a very light profile with a 65" or so wing span, so it should fit the bill. It is a kit though, but it incredibly easy to build.

I've thought about profiles, but I'm really not a fan of them... it's just a personal preference. I've seen guys at the field toss those things around and they look great, but owning/flying one just doesn't appeal to me. I do appreciate your suggestions, though...keep 'em coming.

Way too much engine. Maybe try the new 60 size Twist coming out. How about a 4* 60?

I'm flying my Uproar with a GMS .32 and it's a ball of fire ! I can't even imagine a .60 on this little thing ! First of all the CG is gonna go all to hell... You might concider moving the servos to the rear to compensate. The LG won't support that heavy engine on a hard landing. So... What the hell. Go for it ! LOL !

Yep, OS 32 on my Uproar and it has unlimited vertical. It flies light and on the wing, so to speak. I would not want to make a heavy version out of it I don't think.
Is the Mojo plane an ARF..... anyone have a link????
Thanks,
Ernie

RE: Uproar 40 with 61fx?
The trouble with any .61 on the Uproar ARF isn't the excess power, but the nose weight. To do good maneuvers, you need your plane balanced correctly. The .61FX weighs a half pound more than a .46. This means you'll have to do a good bit of modification to move servos or make a rear battery compartment to get some rear weight. Without this, you'll need to add weight to the rear which is self defeating. It makes your plane even more heavier overall, say a half pound for the engine and a quarter pound of lead. Now the great performance you expected is negated by the extra weight. Lighter is always better.
I have heard of people using a .61 in a Twist, a plane that balances good with a 4-stroke, but can be tail heavy with a .46 unless you move the battery over the tank and maybe use a heavy hub. Check the Twist thread in the ARF or RTF Forum. There are reports of using .61FXs in it there.

Now that's what I'm talking about! That looks like a fun plane to fly...how do you think the 61 fx would pull it? I wouldn't want to get her if she's gonna be too limited. The price is not bad at all, but I had hoped to get one closer to $100 to $125 range...I guess you can't have everything, though... definitely one to consider, that's for sure!
I looked up Model Tech planes on Tower and found [link=http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDCG2&P=0]THIS ONE[/link], too. The max engine size recommended for this one is a .53 and it's only $99.00...what do u think?

RE: Uproar 40 with 61fx?
Right now I have it mounted on a rather heavy.60-.90 size Extra 330 and have a 13x6 APC on it, but it doesn't have enough pull on that plane as far as I'm concerned. I don't want to go to a prop that will shorten the lifespan of the engine, so I purchased a larger engine for the Extra and now I'm looking for a home for this engine. I'm not ready for full 3D yet, but would like a plane that has good aerobatic capabilites but could still be played with when it came time to start 3D maneuvers. So far the Hangar 9 Twist is looking to be the best. Apparently several people have mounted .60-.61 size engines on the .40 size and been very happy with the results as far as balancing and performance...and a big plus is that it's only $99

RE: Uproar 40 with 61fx?
I've got a 40 sized Twist with a AX55 on it and she is amazing. I'm not a real big 3-d man my-self more of a sport- what-ever strikes me type of flyer. The Twist just keeps on supriseing me. I actually had to put weight in the nose a heavy-hub and bigger wheels on mine to make it balance and it will, and usually does, climb vertical right after about 10 foot of taxi. Strait up and out of here. It is a cheap buy and, if you do have that unplaned one point landing, parts are available.
