Joey, Good pics. Is that a .91? Looks like wings are Monokote or similar over built up, true? Do you think it would be a major project to put in retracts? How about some more info on flying when you get time. I made a bid on one from Nitro over a week ago, and have as yet, no reply. Cliff

I was watching and waiting for this model to hit the US shores and as soon as it did I naively asked Nitroplanes if it came with retracts in the kit. They did reply to me and told me it did not come with retracts, and was not retract ready. They did say, however, that they had a retract version of this plane planned, as well as several other planes that are not equipped with retracts but 'should be'.

KMOT, Do you have one? or did you not get one due to lack of retracts? It is a differen't design, and that is what I think makes it interesting. I don't understand the 60+hour respond time, must be sellin' lotsa planes......Cliff

I purchased this same model from Fly-boys and it came bright yellow. I removed the paint from the fuselage and the covering from the wing. I added retracts and split flaps to the wing with minimal amount of effort. The spacing of the ribs lends itself to place the landing gear in the near correct spot. The flaps to were very easy to install, as long as you don't mind cutting the trailing edge off.[img][/img]

Very nice! Still waiting to hear from Nitro Planes on my bid... Might not have been the best way to go. The plane loos like it is fairly well constructed, and the retract installation looks like factory, good job. Interesting cammo, checked out different web sites for this plane, and that is one of the most interesting cammo schemes they used..... Like to know how it flys and the ground handling on those retrats.....Cliff

Cliff, I am still trying to figure out how to use this forum so bear with me. My Macchi flew for the first time on Monday the 8-21-06. The plane has been modified so it has retractable main landing gear and working split flaps. The final weight of the plane was 10 1/2 lbs. It took 1 1/2 lbs of lead in the nose to balance it on the main spar. I used a .91 magnum 2 stroke for power, making about 10 lbs. of thrust. The plane flew very nice with only a small trim adjustment. The flaps did not cause any up or down pitch problems. The retracts are the great planes .60 size mechanical type with 3/16 wire struts. They handled the weight of the plane with no problem and looks good in the air....Bob

Bob, GREAT>>>>> The plane looks good and sounds like it flies well. I gave up trying to get one from Nitroplanes. Got the runaround and no replies to questions or on my order for two weeks, so canceled the order. I think VQ Warbirds is coming out with one that includes retracts. I have a VQ T-6 and it is a good .40 size airplane. Again congrats.......Cliff

I just saw this arf in the latest issue of FlyRc. As soon as I spotted it, I had to have one. That is rare for me, because I am a kit builder and have only owned one arf. Mine should be in the mail today, and I am looking foward to seeing it in person. I don't expect the quality to be great for $125 but I will hope for the best. The only engine I have that will work is a Super Tigre .91, so I will order a pitts muffler and hope for the best. That engine is probably a bit much, but better to have too much than too little. I will let you know how it turns out. I like the MC 200 because I built the Airkill version a while back. Search Macchi Show-off on this forum to see it.

The macchi you ordered was it from Nitro Models? The model I got was from a company called Flyboys and the kit was called Airkil. The fuselage that I got was in good shape but the panel lines need a little more work. The wing is a open bay type build up wing but was covered with a plastic type covering. When you build your plane I would suggest you add more fiberglass between the firewall and the first bulkhead. The plane needs a lot of nose weight to balance so don't be to concerned about the added weight. My plane had a engine failure on the 4th flight and that area felt a little soft afterwards. I repaired it with fiberglass and its nice an rigid again. The retracts really add to the appearance of the plane when it flys by and the Great Planes retracts are very inexpencive. The flaps are a big help when landing since this plane as a very narrow wing and a lot of weight to hold up. The plane as a very nice look on the ground and in the air. Good luck on your new project...Bob
