I have built and flown about 10 different CG Cubs with many different engine sizes. They really don't need much power to fly, a ST GS 40 with a 11x5 APC would work fine. I would stay with the stock muffler and mount engine sideways ior 45 degree upward angle for simplicity. Very good flying plane -

I had the BIY aniversary edition cub waaayyy back, it flew very scale like with an OS FP 40 and Slimline Pitts muffler (real powerhouse) I found that a Zinger 12-4 seemed to be the right choice, lots of thrust at slower speeds Good luck

A .40fp will fly it very scale like. That's what I had on my first one. If you want to have fun with it, clip the wing & put an 80 or 90 4 stroke on it. That's what I had on my last one.

I pull my 4 year ol gold edition witha Thunder Tiget .61 and pitts muffler...more than enough power, scale like at less than 1/2 throttle.
