I am not a gasser engine person- looking to put a Moki 2.1 or Saito 300 twin. Is the Saito a big waste or would it out perform the Moki

Well, you started out by saying you werent into gas, but 99% of these planes are gas powered.

A big glow 2 stroke is going to guzzle fuel and make a big oily mess. The Saito 300 twin, which is 3.0 CI displacement is a great but expensive choice.

I have 2 80" planes that are BME 50 powered. The BME 50 is also 3.0 CI. It will fly for 15 minutes on 16oz of regular gas.

Yes gassers take a lot of planning to get the radio gear setup so there is no interference. If you get a gasser, get the one with the metal spark plug boot and search here, or ask, for how to set it up.

If you want glow, you are better off with the Moki 2.10 than the Saito. Cheaper 5% fuel than 15%~30% on the Saito. Plus it's a stronger motor.

I have a H9 80" CAP with a G45 on it. I know, I know, they're supposed to be too heavy, but mine hovers like a dream and flies like a fun fly. Its also very precise. 8 point rolls are too easy!

Alex, mine really does hover and well. It takes just over half throttle. when I give it full throttle it climbs (slowly) out of the hover. I'm actually suprised at how well it does.

I got the same plane for Christmas. I have not started to assemble yet but it but it will be ready by time the good weather comes. The engine I will use is the Moki 2.1. In a glow engine I believe it is by far the best choice. The Saito might be fun but not on a aerobatic CAP. I don't see any advantage to the G-45 except for the cheap fuel. When I look at the cost of fuel compared to everything else it does not seem to be important. That's my opinion but I could be wrong.

No, i agree. there's no advantage....it just so happens its not too
much of a disadvantage on this particular airplane. Its really lightly loaded and works well with the limited power of the Zenoah. So for the guy who has one laying around (me) its pretty much ok.

Another thing I like is the mid range/ transition of gas engines is perfect. Its like having an electric motor. For me this means the power is more usable in that I can advance the throttle one click and get a linear change to control the hover. I've got a GP G202 with an OS 160 on it. Sometimes it will load up a bit during transition ad cause me to fall out of a hover. Anyway, I like my G45 (and my G62) but i know their limitations.

I am happy too with my G45.. the only problem is lack of power in my plane, but is ok.. for now I dont think i need that extra power of other brands. My engine have about 22 flight and is getting better and better.. i have a spring starter in my engine so is pretty easy to start it.

one question: have you use the Menz Prop or any other prop in the G45? How does it perform?? I need a new prop for mine.

If you are a glow guy then the Moki is the best option. Get a Perry pump for it and it will run like a gasser.

Alex,
I've only used Mejlik (sp) carbon. For the cap I use a 20/8. My next gasser will probably be a DA 100 on a 33% edge. But for now, the H9 cap is a wonderful plane.

So how is everyone setting up the rudder servo? I just mounted mine in the tail, on the right side. This allowed me to avoid setting up pull pull, ad also helped with the CG. So far no problems, Knife edge loops are great either direction.

All I can say is wow. I looked at this plane in the box at the hobby shop and was hooked. Looking at gas engines now. With the small number of compititions we have up here I burned case after case of glow fuel in my saito 180 last summer. I figure the money I save from glow fuel I could buy just about any gas engine I want. Cant wait for spring.

There are 2 guys at my field with the 80" w/ moki 2.10. They don't fly much 3D, they mainly concentrate on pattern. The plane flys real good.

1 lost his plane due to aileron flutter. I heard it was flying level at less then half throttle, then the aileron started fluttering, and went it. I heard he was running futaba 76oz servos on each aileron.

You have to see 1 of the caps in person. These are some great looking ARFs. Best ARF I have seen other than H9 1/3 Cap, and H9 1/3 Suk.

See my thread on this subject also. In what flight comdition did the flutter occur? High speed dive? Level High speed flight??

How about the landing gear?

Any probs there-and does anyone know where I can get aftermarket gear for this plane??

The guy at myfield, people said he was flying level at less than half throttle, when flutter accured. Some said it start flopping around like chicken with it head cut off, before it crashed. Thats how bad the flutter was.

I heard he was using 76oz Torgue futaba servos.
