Default Hangar 9 P-47 Flutter (60-90)

I have a Hangar 9 P-47 (60-90) with an O.S. .91. I put the 5th flight on it today and the elevator half fluttered real bad and broke the horizontal stab and bent the servo control rod almost at a 90 degree angle. Fortunatly, it did not break completely off because if it did it would of destroyed the airplane. The plane flies awesome otherwise. :-)

My tail is a built up tail and is not sheeted. Has anyone else had this problem?

I am thinking of calling Horizon to send me a new elevator and horizontal stab, but it will be a b**** to dig out the old one and replace it.

I've been flying mine for a couple of months now and have not had any problems....BUT, I did see one go in - he was running a .61 (I believe) at full throttle in a dive and when he quickly leveled the plane, the servo stripped, elevator and stab tore off and down she went. He was flying WAY too fast and it cost him!

I'm flying with an Evolution .61 and have not had any problems!

Sorry to hear about your accident....at least it is still in one piece

He , this is a stupid question, figure I'll ask it here. I have installed new gears in servos. Never thought about it but do they make replacement gears for hitecs that are "metal". I am actually about to order a set for a 77 that was on another f20 that went in from flutter a couple years ago and stripped the gear

Yes, you can buy seperate metal gears from Hitec. However, they may not offer metal gears for "all" Hitec servo models.

The president of our club lost his with less than 10 flights due to a stab flutter and seperation. Had a Saito 1.00 four stroke on it and was doing nice smooth 3/4 throttle scalelike passes when it let go. He had purchased it from the LHS and the owner contacted Horizon and sent it in. Not sure what the result was.

i work for a lhs here in mcallen tx and i have seen this problem time and time again ...
and we offer a servis to put these arf's together and frist thing i do is can the ca hinges thats the main problem i replace them with the du-bro standard nylon ones . second on any plane its a good idea to seal the hinge lines with this done there isnt any chance for anything to fludder plus with it sealed if it breaks for some ungodly reason it doesnt fall off and you can still have some control over the plane at low speeds .and switching the servos to an hs-322hd well help.. a few more mins building it will help a ton
