I had a ringed Supertigre .61 once, excellent power and very reliable but rather heavy, especially the muffler. Maybe that could solve the tail heavy issue. Other than that, all I can say is this is one of the strangest threads I have posted to.

It's a great engine for the money - Execllent choice for most 60 sized planes, and the warranty is great, esp if you're a Tower super saver member. Buddies 75 was 2 years old and one day the connecting rod broke, he sent it back to Tower and they put a new sleeve, piston, con rod, crank and bearings in it for free. Basically it was a brand new engine.

I think the 75 would be to much for a the model. I dont know about the Extra, but I had the Sukoi with a 70 four stoke on it. It had more than enough power. I think the 70 four stroke is about the same power as a 50 two stroke. So a 60 should be more than enough prower. Like some of the guys have been saying, these are not a good 3d birds. My Sukoi flew alright, but it was nothing special. Watch the fuse, theres not alot of plywood used, at least not on the Sukoi. Mine snapped in half at the at the back of the canope.

I dont own any Tower engines, but a fellow member in our club has the 60 size one and he has not had one problem with it in two years, the only complanit he has is the ugly exhaust on the motor. It should work good on the Extra.

I would think you would have plenty. I would think with a 12-5 or a 13-4 you should be able to go as high as you want. Try it out and let us know. I liked the quallity of mine was thinking of picking up another one. I was ging to fix the sukhoi, but when I fix fuses that have broke in half, they never seem to fly the same.

i've had a TH75 and it was great when it ran. but i had so many problems with it running right that i got rid of it. i had a hard time giving it away. nearly everyone experienced person at my field had tinkered with it at one point or another without much success. on the other hand, i've heard great stories from others. so my conclusion is that it's just a crap shoot. you might get a good one or you may not.
as for 60 size engines... i'm not a big fan of them. if you're going to get an engine in that weight, try a 90. i think they are only a few ounces heavier. the TH75 will fit the bill nicely. i believe both should give the plane unlimited vertical at sea level. i'm not sure at over a mile high, what it'll be like.
my TH75 was on a WM Zen 50. very pretty plane and my first with retracts. flew IMAC like a star and was nearly impervious to wind. loved that plane. sold it when i left hong kong. [&o]
