Just did some more number crunching for fun. Both the TF and the CMP are 'generally' 1/5 scale but neither are 'exact' 1/5 scale.

TF:

Wing = 1:5.3
Length = 1:5.4
Area = 1:5.2

CMP:

Wing = 1:5.2
Length = 1:5,5
Area = 1:5.9

This might well be the case. However, take a good look at the recommendations that TF had for its 2 strokers. Low end is .61. I have seen many flown with this engine and it did real well. The CMP low end is 108, which justs has to be overkill. Look too, at the weight differences. As I recall, my TF (fully tricked out) was about 12.5 lbs. At no time did I wish I had more than the .91 FS in it.

I note in the forums, that there is an over whelming choice for overpowering by many pilots. This is not the case, however, with ex
perienced scale pilots who have learned to enjoy "flying the wing" rather than the engine. Some of the old kit builders such as SIG seem to recommend somewhat lower end engines, but I think that this is a carry over from back when we didn't have the choice of such high end engines with which to overcome our lack of skills in flying.

Back before my time, one had to really trim out and fine tune your free flight model to experience good flying characteristics. Now I find that a great many RC flyers don't really bother to fine trim and truly balance their models. What is seen is the tendency to just add a lot of power to overcome sloppy handling.

When you observe a pilot flying a scale plane in a smooth, scale manner, you can also hear the many changing sounds of the engine rpm. Novices often push the stick into a rather high position and just leave it there for the entire flight. So......I think that todays buyer, by and large, wants to hear that he needs " the big one" for his purchase. ???

This is going off on a tangent, but I would guess the reason for overpowering everything today is a result of the fad of 3D flying.

Sorry guy's. I have not had time to get this thing unpacked yet. I will get to it tonight.

I have been spending all my time cleaning up the yard from a couple tornado's we had about a month ago. 30 tree's and 2.6 acres of mowing area chew up the time pretty quick.

I will say my flying buddies have helped emencely!!!! At one time, we had 6 saw's running. That sure get things done a little quicker.

Hello,

Here are the long awaited pictures.

Everything looks really good except for the cheesy nose strut COVER. That's right, it's just a cover.

Just so you know, I did not perfectly place the cowl for the pics, that's why the lines are off a bit.

I will post more pics as I start assembling the plane.

Due to size limits, there will be another post with more pics.

The packing of the plane was superb. If there is any damage from shipping, it's because something penetrated the double box.

That is very reassuring to hear!

Thanks for the pictures! I guess they are huge because the box was huge!

Quick question: Are the CMP decals under clear coat?

I think so. I didn't put anything on the plane myself.

A-K Models show them in stock. They seem to have a better reputation as well.

I like the photo of the plane, it looks very nice. However, that ugly APC prop just ruins the whole appearance. I wish APC would go out of business, but that won't happen within our lifetimes I'm afraid. So, I guess we can look forward to the electric parkies with that company's ugly grey sticks on the nose forever. By the way, I look forward to seeing some photos of that Cessna when it's assembled.

just an FYI, the picture problem appears to be resolved but it wont fix the current large ones already posted.

If possible please edit your post and re-upload the pics. This will help our dial-up friends and also make the post more clear once they get resized

thanks for the understanding.

also wanted to say this bird does look good

I received my Cessna 182 the other day too!! WOW what a sweet bird. Dug out my "spare" G26 for a look see and its going in the cessna. Just have to build a motor box about 3/4" thick to space the motor to the cowl. Only other change is to get rid of the wire nose gear and replace it with a Robart strut.

Guys, how about some construction photos, tips, info or comments please!
I had a question about the covering? How was it when you guys opened the box?
Any severe wrinkles or is it a good covering job? To me the covering in the photos
looks much more see thru than say the painted wingtips or fuselage. Is this the
case or does it match up better? Perhaps you could paint the covering so everything
looks the same. Diablo, i think a g-26 would be overkill on this bird. The hangar
9 cessna worked well with a g-26 but it is a much larger airplane. Maybe the new
zenoah g-20 would be better. You will probably have to hack the cowl up alot with the g-26

Wow, i never thought a new thread on a new airplane would die LOL
I ordered mine today, should be here by the end of the week.
I just hope its as good as the pics look. I plan to add some scale
details to mine. Would love to put a small gasser in the front that
would not require the cowl to be chopped up. I hate glow engines!

first impression?

Mine was originally scheduled to be delivered on the 11th but it got moved back to the 13th. Friday the 13th! [sm=red_smile.gif] lol...

Anyway, when it arrives I will do a cursory inspection for shipping damages. If all is well, it gets closed back up and will be re-opened on Christmas Day because it is my Christmas and birthday present from my wife. [sm=thumbup.gif]

So, no construction or other photos from my end for a while!

My kit arrived today, unscathed on the inside. The shipping box had a couple tears in it. Fortunately, and to CMP's credit they did an excellent job of packaging this kit for the trials and tribulations modelers go through at the hands of international shipping employees.

I checked all the components, while trying not to disturb the packing too much. I did not unwrap anything though. I had to close it back up and now wait till Christmas morning to open it up again. At least I got a sneak peek!

The wings are wrapped in foam and stacked tightly to one another and then taped to a carboard shelf which sits above the fuselage. To the side of the fusealge are two plastic bags full of various bits. Inside the box at the rear is the aft portion of the fuselage which is butted up against a piece of styrofoam. Also inside this box is the cowl, and the fin and rudder. Also nicely wrapped in foam and taped down.
