I lost my Laser on it's maiden flight. It was a dumb move on my part, something I should have caught but didn't. I guess I was to excited to get it in the air and didn't realize the servo wires were crossed. But the damage is well beyond my ability to repair at this point.
So my question: Which plane to replace it with?
I have an 120AX that needs to be in something. I've been flying for over six years now and have flown lots of different style planes. The problem is I'm not the type of person that likes to put a 120 in a 60 size plane.
I have not been able to find a plane that I would like to put this engine in. I have only found planes that go up to a 60 or that start at a 120.
Do you know of a plane that this engine would be suitable for at this altitude, about 5K? I'm thinking of a sport type plane. I would like something with plug in wing but not a requirement. A warbird would be nice also. I lost my P51 a few years ago and never got another warbird.
Any ideas?

Pacific Aeromodel makes a very nice 90-120 size laser. Larger and lighter than the one you had, it should be a great flyer at your altitude.

Sorry about your loss. That sucks.
What about the Giant Big Stik? Yeah, I know. Everyone has one, but it is a fantastic model and it has plug-in wings. You could be back flying in no time.
CMP makes a Katana 1.40, which I have NIB. I wonder if they make it in a 1.20 size? They make lots of models in both sizes. www.akmodels.com

Thanks for the replies.
I looked at the Pacific Aeromodels Laser before I got the Seagull one I lost. They never seem to have any in stock.
I do love the way that Pitts look. But I already have two bipes, an Ultimate and a Waco. Heck, I'd sell both of those to get one of those Pitts.
I looked at the AK site. They have some good looking stuff. I liked the Yak and a couple of the warbirds. By the way, the correct web addy is: [link=http://www.ak-models.com]www.ak-models.com[/link]
But I have to tell ya. I looked at the Superstar and it does look a lot like the Laser. Different color scheme but the setup is very close.
The thing that really got my eye... the Superstar is going for $100 right now. I did some looking here on RCU and found there are some things to be aware of with this model. Of course there are things to know about any ARF but what I found can be overcome with some preparation.
For $100 can you really go wrong with an ARF? OK, yes, but you have to give it a shot for that price.
Thanks for the tips everyone; but I think I'm going to order the Superstar and try it out.

Could you point me in the direction regarding some of the things to be aware of about the Super Star? I'm in the same position as you and the Super Star might be a good choice for the price. I lost a Fusion 90 about a month ago on the maiden flight and I now have an OS 120AX waiting for something. Thanks.

Walex,
I wasn't able to find a lot of info on the Super Star here on RCU. There seems to be a few guys that have built one, but only one was posting on his build and problems.
Here are links to the threads I found:
[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3617436/tm.htm]Build[/link]
[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3875217/tm.htm]Repair[/link]
The creator of the threads say he flys his with a Saito 150. A buddy of mine here thinks the 120 will fly it but it will be lacking in power. I have a 150GK that I can swap out the 120 for if it isn't enough power.
I called a LHS that sells Horizon and Seagull models. He looked it up and said he could not get the Super Star for that price and thinks it may be a typo of some type. Well, I looked at some other websites that sell Seagull and they also list the Super Star for $100.
I ordered mine today, already got an email confirmation of the order saying it should ship tomorrow. Plane, shipping and all came to $116.

Like I said I called a local store that sells Horizon and Seagull. The dealer looked on the website and couldn't believe they were going for that price. He told me he couldn't even get them that cheap. Heck, I should have ordered two.
I just looked and they are still showing that price, take a look: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=SEA3075

Wow!!! To go from $300.00 list, to $174.00 sale, down to $99.00...... I'd like to know what the deal is with those kits. Anyone have any insight as to what's going on?

I stopped in the LHS today and talked to the manager. He called Horizon to ask them and they only told him it was a price reduction. They said the plane isn't being discontinued or was on sale. So he ordered three to put in stock for his store.
Other then that... don't know.
I didn't sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night but I am waiting for my box to arrive.

Well, mine arrived yesterday. I see they did incorporate the mods suggested by Sturtz in the fuse.
The lines reminds me a lot of the Laser I had from them. Actually from what I read the Super Star came from the Laser; or was it the Laser came from the Super Star.
Either way; I got mine for $116 to my door. From what I see everything looks good on it so far. I'm going to start building it Sun afternoon. I'm going sraight forward with this one, not a lot of mods or upgrades. I'm going to use my 120AX and if it seems weak I have a Saito 150GK I can put on it for more power. Sturtz's thread said he was hovering his with a Saito 150.
Heck if this works out I may get another; for $100 why not. My LHS got three of them in now so I can just stop by and pick one up from them.

I just received the Horizon quarterly catalog and the price of the Super Star is $99.00 there also. So, I think for that price I've got to give it a try

Zippi,
I got my Laser after reading your thread on the plane. It was definitely a dumb move on my part for the crash. I won't be able to repair it so I figure just replace it. The Super Star seems like a good deal at the price.
I did look at the Yak, always wanted one. I was considering it until I saw the price on the Super Star. Maybe I'll get one of them and use the Saito 150 I have.
Wife asked me to hold off on buying more planes for now. I have a bunch of 40 size planes I haven't built. I'm thinking of selling them and just buying bigger. Heck, I may get to the gassers like you did Zippi.

If you have the Super Star with a OS120AX in it, could you post some pictures of it? I would like to see how the engine fits inside
of the cowl. Also, how does the 120 fly it around the sky? I know everyone has a different taste in planes, but could you compare between a pattern plane and a 3d machine? Thanks.

Just finished looking at your models and realized you had a Laser with the OS 120AX in it. Forget about all the questions regarding the Super Star. By the way, how does your Skyshark Edge fly and is the 120 too much engine for that plane? I like the looks of the your Edge. Thanks.

I just saw the price of 99.99.... WOW,,, I have a funtana 100x with a 26cc gasser and the seagull shows this with one as well\? only issue is the wing loading. Much less wing area that the funtana 100. Not sure if this would be a good plane for a 26cc gas like they suggest but , wow what a steal! 99.99. I don't care if I already have too many planes,, this is just too cheap to pass up. And from what I have read in the forums about this plane, it is a good one....

kochj,
Did you see the build and repair thread? I posted links to both on this thread, see post #9.
Did you see the movie of the Super Star flying? I don't remember what engine they had on it when flying. But, I'm like you... for $100 I have to give it a shot.
