Avistar Wing Dihedral

Hi Gang,
Can some of you who own an AVISTAR let me know what the wings dihedral is?
My wing looks like it has so little I had to run a string over the top of the wing and measure between the string and where the wings half butt together.

Hi gang,
Where would the R/C industry draw the line on the size of a trainer?
Seems to me that a plane with a 6-7 foot wing span and an engine big enough to fly it 60 MPH is far from a trainer and really may be dangerous to a newbie.
Any input?

The Avistar doesn't have as much dihedral as say the Hobbico Super Star. I just put a Super Star together with and for my father. I though the wing looked goofy because of all the dihedral. Way more than my Avistar. I learned on the Avistar, it is a great plane. I got crazy and put an OS 46FX w/ a MACS pre-tuned pipe on it. A guy at the field said I was probably going about 70-75 at level flight with full power on an APC 10.5x6 prop. No hint of flutter either. It pretty much has unlimited vertical as well. I haven't really been able to hover it, it's not made for that so I am told. The only down side is that it is a little heavy with this setup, so landings are a little hot, but definately not unmanagable. It does inverted flight without much up elevator. All around great plane IMO. I think it definatly lets you do more than your standard trainer. The engine/pipe setup are going to go on a H9 Aresti. I think it should make that plane scream. Gotta finish my Super Kraft Sport Cap 232 first though. Had a slight accident with the Saito 100 that is going on the Cap (fingers and turning props do not go together), so I am gonna get some graphics made up and call it "The Mangler". Thanks for the input.
I thought maybe they put the wrong wing in the box.
I have the OS 46 FX here but think 'll burrn up the sky a bit untill I see how it flies with the OS 40.
I'll have to look into the tuned pipe.
You got your fingers in the PROP?
I still carry the scar from a small U control plane when I was a kid.
They can do a number on the fingers.

I think you should go ahead and put the 46 in it. Is this your first plane? When I was learning, there were a couple times that I would have cracked up the plane had I not had the extra power that the .46 could provide. If you stall, want to pull out of a bad landing, whatever, the 46 really made the plane jump when you needed it to. Oh well have fun either way, but when you do put the 46 on it, you will be wishing it had been there all along.

1 More, This is The Mangler, partially completed, construction probably won't re-commence until the pins are removed from my fingers. By the way very happy with the quality of this kit so far. Hope the saito 100 pays me back for biting me by making this a great flying plane. Sorry about the blurry photos, cheap web cam.

Nothing wrong with the photos.
# 1 is nice and clear.
I have a Digi cam and sometimes get blurry PICS when I don't hold still.
Nice looking Avistar.
I think the Avistar is one sharp little bird RTF for a $300.00 price tag.
I notice you also run the antenna to the top of the fin like I do.
But my RX is mounted closer to the front and secured in thick soft cell foam and the antenna comes out top of the fuse and straight back to the top of the fin.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You have pins in your fingers from the prop?
You must have had a very bad accident.
I saw the size of the prop and it's big enough to remove a hand.

I was looking at the wing and was thinking how the Avistar would fly with the wing tips rounded off and tapered down.
Willing to bet you'll get more speed from the wing because the design of the tips is to creat more drag but maybe i'll try that on my old beat up trainer.
Nice shots and the yellow plane looks like a fast one.
I'll let you know when I put the 46-LX on.

Yeah the prop took a pretty nice sized bite out of my hand. Just four more weeks and the pins will come out. What do you mean it's snowing so no flying? I just picked up a set of skis for the Avistar. I am hoping to get it up tomorrow, wind willing. Don't let snow stop you.

It has very little dihedrial ... I've owned both the Avistar and the Superstar, and the difference is quite noticable I just bought a .46 FX for it too. Right now I'm running a .46 LA which is fun when turning a 11X4 APC. It will go straight up for awhile ... I cannot wait until I try the same prop with the FX.
It's really nice plane. I have one of the old ones (Mark I). I don't know the difference between it and a new one ... other than the lousy covering that my old one uses.

Got the ol Avistar up today. Very cold outside, so I had to set up the plane, fuel it up, then go back in the car to warm up. Fired up the plane and away it went. Pretty funny, the snow is very powdery, so the nose ski would sink when not moving forward. The prop would hit the snow slowing the engine, so takeoffs had to be at full throttle. Once in the air, I found that slower flying is better, lots of trim required, cause the skis act as 3 extra wings. It was quite an experience. Got her back ok, no taxiing after landing, do to prop hitting snow at idle and engine quitting. All around good day though. If you have never tried skis, I would recommend it.

am flying avistar with great plains 40 size floats using the os.46fx engine. even though the finished weight is 7 lb. 4 oz. there is plenty of power from snow. Am anxious to go off water this summer. I tried this last summer with os.40la engine and could not get up without a stiff breeze and a few waves to bounce off of. good plane for the cost. covering was very poor though.

Your right about the Avistar.
I got mine for $250.00 because TH had a $15.00 discount plus I had a $10.00 coupon so for $250.00 plus $8.00 I received a RTF very nice looking plane.
Most of TH RTF planes come through with poor covering application and I think they just unload them cheap because of that.
But on my old beat up trainer I removed all the covering and now covering the entire wing with paper thin sheet balsa.
Also the trainers have a super fat leading edge.
Any way you look at it, the trainer and the Avistar
give you more bang for your buck.Out of the box and an a couple of hours to set the throws and double check everything and your flying

You can remove the small disk inside the muffler from what it says on the OS site page and get a bit more power

Crashing is one thing but having to drag for your plane ?????
Maybe i'll stick with picking up fuse and wing parts
