Great Planes is expecting another shipment of the Wagstaff Extra very soon. Does anyone know if GP has done anything different with this shipment to correct the wing tube problem?

Yes, the wing tube guides are supposedly fiberglas instead of cardboard.

Do they fit any better? Can't tell you, I haven't seen one yet.

For those with the cardboard tubes that haven't started building, can we see abuot swapping for the new ones?

I found and easy solution to the tight wing tubes on my GP Wagstaff. I purchased a 1" diameter flapper sanding disc at a local tool supply house and put it on a 12" drill bit extension shaft. With a drill motor you can sand the inside of the tube for the full length...just be careful to not oversand....it took about 3 attempts before I got mine to slide on and off with little effort. The flapper sanding disc is available in several sizes...I had to do the same thing to my Aeroworks 33% Wagstaff and it had fiberglass tubes but the tube was 1 1/2" diameter.

I know the tube is hard to get in and out but does the tube ever work itself loose enough to be OK without the sanding?

How easy should the wings go on? Should there be any resistance? Mine get snug at about the last inch which makes the wings hard to come off...

Mine are so difficult, I have to install the tube in the left wing, put the tube through the fuselage, secure the wing, then put on the right side and use the bolts to pull the wings together. It is very difficult to take it back apart

But shouldn't it be easy? Does it cause any problems if you loosen them up to just slide on and off?

The wing tubes should fit SNUG, but not tight. Example: You should not have to use the fuselage as leverage to remove the wings from the tubes, but not loose enough so that there is a significant amount of movement when the wing is mounted on the tube.

I got the PW Extra 300s on 2-14-2003 (my wife's Valentine gift to me!) and all the tubes, wing and horizontal stab are fiberglass. The fit is near perfect.
