RE: Seagull Yak?
I have it with the 120 AX, no right thrust, how do you determine if it needs it and then how do you put right thrust in the model?
Also, mine flies great, twitchy at high rates and knife edge it does couple towards the gear. I'm going to put some up elevator mixing in with the Rudder I think to counter it.

Go vertical,if it pulls left then add right thrust by putting a couple of washers between left (pilot view)engine mount and firewall(through both mounting bolts). And don't forget to put the rudder/elevator mix on a switch,so you can turn the mix on and off.Use expo. to help with the twitchyness.

RE: Seagull Yak?
Just finished my Yak and in the process of balancing it. First of all, I should indicate the I'm using a pumped OS 120 four stroke. I read alot of the posts and some say the CG is at 5 1/2" behind the leading edge next to the fuse. I set my Great Planes balancing machine at 5 1/2" with the intent to move the battery (JR 6V 1400 mAh nicad) to get the right CG. I thought I would be able to put it somewhere in the area of the hatch but....nope, I ended up putting it about 1 1/2" in front of the two elevator servos. It balances rock steady at this spot. Did anyone else have to place their battery that far back? Joe

RE: Seagull Yak?
I just finished my Yak and went with a BCMA 26cc. The engine was an easy fit and seems to have all the power in the world for this plane. I will post a few pics after her maiden when the weather and my cold cooperate.

RE: Seagull Yak?
Hey got a Saito 150 on mine and its a rocket. I bet the 180 will be extra powerful. 5 1/2" CG flys perfect. Also I am looking for a left wing. Long story but a battery got dropped on mine. It can be fixed but.... Anybody got an extra? Thanks mxerman

I would use the one with the most power. My guess that would be the Saito. You will most likely need to add weight to balance with either one. Good luck, mxerman

RE: Seagull Yak?
Thanks for that Mixerman.Just wasn't sure that either would have enough power considering everyone seems to be going with bigger engines.Do you think it would be worthwhile going bigger?Funnily enough I found the Saito not as powerful as I expected.A clubmate has a 91 in his Graupner Yak,which is nearly the same as the Seagull, and its bonkers.Couldn't imagine what your lad is like with a 1.50.Whew!!!!!Maybe I'll try the 100 and let ye know how it goes. Thanks again.

RE: Seagull Yak?
well found the weak point in the yak just in front wing bolts
the 150 saito rip the fuse in half in mid air
did not like the sanp rolls
thats end of it
now looking for new model to build

Thanks lou - yep, sure is a great field. Contrary to the the username stuff (don't know how that happened and I can't seem to edit it) it's in Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia. Here's a link: http://flyeastpoint.com/

RE: Seagull Yak?
Dito regarding the field posted by first degree. That could make me into an ex-patiot. I fly at Markham Park in Sunrise, Florida (just west of Fort Lauderdale) a beautiful field with a sprinkling of inconsiderate week end flyers. Otherwise a great place. But, first degree, that is beautiful! Happy flying!!

RE: Seagull Yak?
I fly my Yak with a Zenoah G20 ei turning a JXF 17x6 at 8100 rpm. That's about the same power as the BCMA 26cc gasser. Thrust is above 14 lbs and the plane weight just 9.9 pounds, with a MaxAmp 4200 mAH single cell for the ignition. Verticals are truly unlimited.

RE: Seagull Yak?
hi, how did you get on with the 120 ax for power? i got a saito 125 but will not prop hang under 90 throttle, so want want more power, thinking of the 120 ax or 160 fx, (when the seagul yak expires i can fit that into an extreme flight yak i,m planning on getting in the future).

RE: Seagull Yak?
Hey firstdegree...I put a Zenoah G20EI in mine, haven't flown it yet...how about all the extra weight of the engine, did you have to add a lot of weight in the rear?
