I learned a few things about the Quickie today. One, it will do a loop with the elevator/spoileron mix that I programmed....and more importantly, Two, it does NOT like to fly on it's back! I inverted it, flying at about 3/4 throttle. Had to give a little down stick to keep it up...and all of a sudden it quits flying and starts toward the ground on it's back. It was like an inverted flat spin, except it wasn't spinning...just headed toward the ground perfectly level, flat of it's back. I tried full throttle, rudder, ailerons...nothing. The only thing that brought it out was idling the throttle and pulling back hard on the stick. When I did that, it nosed toward the ground, gained some airspeed, and began flying again. I have learned my lesson. No more funny stuff with the quickie...although....if I could make it do it when I wanted to, and make it come out of it.....I might try it again....looked pretty cool

What a funny story! It must have got the adrenalin pumping.
The Quickie is a different animal.
Thanks for the info.
I'll have to keep it in mind when I build another one.
Happy Landings!

Hi, I hope you people are still looking at this thread! I ordered oe yesterday and expect it thurs/fri. I can give a build log w/pics if anyone wants. I have a spare roll of white Solarfilm (i am in the UK) so i will glass the centre part of the Canard and if the wheels are hard, i'll probably add the Du-Bro low bounce wheels as well. And of course, have the aft balance point. This shouldn't be so hard to achieve ( no lead) as i will be using a micro servo for throttle ( whats the point in using a standard? save wheight) and a VERY light Magnum Pro.45 2 stroke engine. This engine is amazing, as it will also swing up to a 12X7, probably higher, and is just as powerful as most .50-.55 engines avaliable today! I say 'today' as i cant find anywhere who sells it and i got it second hand... I might end up using elevator-flap as i get the idea that this *wont* loop on elevator alone... All in all, so what if it has bad instructions, and there are some flaws in the design. A bit of hard work and it flies great and will last for years! Just because it's an ARF, you can't really expect to have everything perfect right from the get-go... Remember, if you were building it from scratch, plans of from a kit you would have to spend 10 times the time it takes to get this ARF right, just building the damn thing! It's just a cheap ARF, so it just seems a little stupid when people go *pissing* around expecting Hangar-9 quality... Thanks to people like Ruby-G. (Ok, Rube then) Shubova and ScottMcM. I have to thank Scott especially even though i havent even recieved it yet as knowing me i would just flip it and try a 'low' pass down the strip inverted... plonk...[X(][:-] I have heared that with the Canard designs, (the foreplane stalls first, right?) that is the main wing stalls, it gets locked into a stall.. and is *nearly* impossible to recover from. This might have something to Scotts model 'quitting flying' when inverted. I'm really very curious about this plane and as soon as i saw it on sale for £79.99, i HAD to have it!! Sorry to blabber on, but i have just read this whole thread AND started a thread on a local UK forum so i suppose i had a lot to say...

Cheers,

If you're planning on doing a low inverted pass, you might want to go ahead and order two of them I was flying about 3/4 throttle when I inverted mine. When I gave it some down elevator, I'm guessing it stalled, and started it's inverted fall. I never tried it at full throttle....might work...might not. Also, I've got the flaperonsmixed in with the elevator. When I gave it down elevator, the flaperons also responded, in the opposite direction. It is much more responsive to pitch inputs this way. Without the elevator/flaperon mix, it may fly just fine inverted. I did the elevator/flaperon mix becauseitjust doesn't like to flare very well (when landing) with elevator alone. With the mix, it flares very nicely.
