Alex, since I see you are lurking I have been looking at the 52 size J-3 cub, I assume this plane is as well built as the other planes being discussed on this forum, Do you or anyone else here consider this plane a great value for the buck, I am by no means a seasoned pilot but have moved on from my trainer, Is this a fairly stable airframe, any quirks? Thanks to all, by the way, who makes the model, is it cmp also?

wish i could say i had good luck with ak models but that was not the case. i ordered two canopies for my cmp texan 160. and since i wanted them in a hurry i opted to pay extra for fex ex instead of regular shipping( 14.00 vs 5.50). i did not get a tracking number so i knew something was wrong. took almost two weeks to get my parts and when i did i noticed it came regular shipping. i called alex to tell him i did not get what i paid for. he didnt call back but did contact me by e-mail asking what the problem was. i told him and sent him a picture of the shipping label asking for a refund for differance in shipping . fair request. that was two weeks ago no calls no e-mails no refund

Anybody know the quality of the CMPro YAK-54 (50) from AK. How's the build and how's it fly? It has a fiberglass fuselage, I had a NITRO plane with a fiberglass fuselage and the ribs would pull lose from the glass.

why he will not give me the differance back on the shipping cost is beyond me. he took my fed ex money and then shipped it regular mail. hes had more than enough time to do the right thing now its time to contact my bank card and see what they say

Please note, my posts are in response to Alex's questions and comments. I had no intention of beating the dead horse until Alex asked and then perpetuated my responses with his. He asked for the facts I gave them to him. If he posts again calling me shady, I will respond. If he lets it go, it is gone.
I am not telling anyone to not do business with him.
Jrjohn,
As far as the Yak. I am on record as having nothing but good things to say about it. At the price Alex is selling it for: it has to be the best deal on the net. Putting aside the landing gear issue (it was only the right one that fell out and I mean fell out not broke) the quality and completeness of the ARF is superb. I never thought that the gear issue was a big deal. As you can read I had it fixed in one evening. I sent Alex an email just asking what he can do. I expected him to say I can't to anything and if he would have said that, the issue would have been over. When he said he would send the fuse and then changed his mind on the grounds that I was less than upfront lighted an inferno to a situation that was not even smoldering. Anyway, odds are that if you buy the Yak you will receive it, you will fly it, and you will love it. One thing that is absolutely beyond question is it is one heck of a value.
Here is a list of positive points on this Yak.
1) wing plugs into fuse rather than just butting up to it.
2) push rods all ready cut to size and assembled.
3) aluminum control horns.
4) carbon fiber wing tube, stab tube, and tail wheel.
5) cowl stiffener ring all ready installed with inter locking tabs to the firewall. All complete no additional assembly required.
6) Cut out for two rudder servos
7) Composite landing gear. Very strong with a nice looking contour to them.
8) easy to assemble wheel pants. Just slip them on and tighten two socket cap screws.
9) Cowl is held on with blind nuts. Not just screws into the balsa.
10) Canopy is 100 percent complete. Just put it on and fly.
11) All blind nuts are installed for you.
12) The only thing you have to do that is not just assembly is cut the cowl for the engine. For the DL 50 you have to cut to make room for the head and pipe to stick out. A cut for normal cooling is enough. The can of the muffler fits fine.
13) guide tubes for the canopy bolts all ready installed.
I am sure I forgot a few positives.
The only negatives I can find:
The fuel tank does not fit unless you cut two horizontal members. One in the fuse and one in the canopy. They can be cut with no problem and are not really needed.
The instructions are better off if left in the box. They can get you into trouble if you read them. Most dimensions on where to install the hardware are wrong. They even tell you that the control surfaces are all ready glued and ready for flight. Give them a tug, they are not glued. This Arf is so complete, you don't need no stinking instructions.

OK here are my thoughts on this I might be right I might be wrong
Some of the guys on here just need to get over it . If you dont like alex dont do bussiness with him > The more you complain and carry on doesnt look good to anyone . yes I know somthings maybe he didnt do right But you have to admit some of the junk you guys complain about is BS like the firewall coming out in flight . You are soley responsable for the flight worthness of your plane not Alex and the guy with the motor If i was alex i wouldnt have taken it back and dont know many hobby shops that would have becuase he tried a freinds part on the motor that is in its self a mod to the motor and warranty null and void . As for me I have been asking alex many question though e-mail about shipping and things and he has allways been nice and friendly and i will be ordering a kit from him soon . Every shop around the world will have people saying dont go there there **** its like the old saying Cant make everyone happy all the time . To alex keep your chin up and move on and to the other guys who i know will flame my post saying Im just kissing ass you had your say why are you still flogging that dead horse .

I purchased from AK the CMP katana 140, great kit. The covering job was second to none and with the painted and clear cote i was ?? but it tighted up perfect with a little work from the heat gun. I upgrade (with all my planes) the landing gear and tail gear from graphtech. i upgraded the hardware to 4-40 rod on all surfaces and had to get a little creative with the throttle servo. I'm running Hitec 5485 on all but the rudder with 645mg. It did come in a little tail heavy so i added sullivan smoke kit and and second battery for it and that worked. CG 110mm, 13lb 5oz, unlimited vertical. Heres the list of parts and adds........this is my 3rd kit from AK and my 2nd CMP kit, no problems and a great buy.
OS 160
APC 18x6w
perry pump
Slimline inverted smpke muffler
Hitec 5485 digital
Hitec 645mg rudder
2000 flight battery
800 smoke battery
stock fuel take 14oz (15min flight)
Graphtech main and tail gear
Some pictures of the engine area......will post airfame later.

Hello. I am wondering if you are still looking for an AKM Simple Flier? I am not sure if they are still around, but I have one, a kit. Complete, all there. Including instructions and layout plan. Let me know if you are interested. Thank you, Troy
