I have a new NitroModels Ryan PT-20 ARF : [link=http://www.nitroplanes.com/rypt644070ni.html]http://www.nitroplanes.com/rypt644070ni.html[/link] . The instructions are vague and note that I should use a 4-cycle .52 engine. Can anyone here give me some advice on my engine options? What 2-strokes could I use or what brand 2-4 strokes are good. I have several airplanes all with OS .46 AX engines. I'm looking to explore other brands/sizes or at least different size engines. I do not do much aerobatics (every now and then I'll do a loop or rolls). I enjoy pattern flying and practicing approaches.
Thanks [8D]

I've decided to install the OS .46 AX. Anyway, the instructions are horrible on this ARF. It has instructions with only 36 vague imaged steps. In fact, I have two wooden rods that are not pictured or even mentioned in the kit. The landing gear installation is horrid. It used bent wire that is not symetrical and required further bending. The aileron rods to the servo are I believe die-cast (maybe not) because I snapped one so easily (ugh). I build kits and I'm finding it a challange to finish this one off. I'm searching for more instructions or else I'm going to have to finish on my own. [:@]

S3eker,
I used to have this model in the last season.I was using a Magnum .46 2 stroke on her nose those days, and it was absolutely enough for scale-like flying. As far I remember, the two wooden rods are the elevator and the rudder push rods. The landing gear installation is ludicrous, you gonna be lose it in no time.Otherwise its an easy to fly semi-scale model.

I had this plane some time ago with OS 46 and Pitts muffler. As Georgee noted, very pleasant flyer. Main surgery needed in the landing gear: the wires in my kit were bad tempered, like glass, and they broke in the first landing. I bent a new pair from 4mm wire, placed additional grooved hard woods in the wing and added 3mm struts from these wood blocks to the gear. Pants were a little difficult to place after this modification, but the result was worth..

You both are absolutely correct on the landing gear! I must have spent three hours trying to bend and rebend so they look and roll straight. I'm still not happy how they sit into the wing slot. I will use more epoxy for strength. I don't like how all the landing force will be on the wing, but that's the design [sm=confused.gif]. I finally figured out by the pictures that the wood is part of the control rods like you said. I went ahead and built it and did the heat shrink part. I didn't like the way it looks so I went ahead and pulled them and went with metal push rods and changed that part of the design. Also, I had difficulties with understanding the tail wheel installation. There is not help on this in the instructions. I went ahead and installed a Sullivan tail wheel which looks much better. Did I mention I snaped one of the aileron rods half way off? I had to epoxy the clevis that didn't fit in but things seem to be holding. Not happy with that. Right now, I'm at the point where I'm going to install the engine. I already have the servos and linkages installed. I'm hoping the engine aligns. I'm worried about that. I will be installing an OS .46AX so thanks for the info on the engines. I'm not planning aerobatics but more pattern flying. I'll let you know how it goes. I'll post some pics later. Thanks [sm=cool.gif]
