Hi Guys,
Well, buildingwise I'm certinally not the fastest (I've been flying more than building - and that would change fast if I crashed my cap LOL). I got this kit for christmas and only just started assembly. I got the motor, pitts muffler and mount already, but still need to save more lunch money to buy servos and the flight gear.
Here is the joiner problem in real life. it fits in the socket as loose as a goose. I glued 3/16" aircraft ply to the back and will sand to fit tonight. It is also too short and I'll add a peice on the end before I'm done. I'll shoot a pic if your all interested. I got this tip from somewhere on this board, I forgot who else did it....

Rickp, I ended up laminating front and back of joiner with 1/64 ply. It worked fine, and wings lined up perfectly. I heard some people were just ooverfilling with epoxy to fill the gap, I didnt think that was a good idea, so I laminated. Daz...

1/64"?? I first cut out 1/32 shims and two of them were not enough. I'm sure 3/16" will be snug, but thank god for belt sanders.

The wing joiner for the H9 Cap 232 (1/4 scale) also suffers from poor fit. However it is very loose top and bottom but fairly snug on the sides. I had to add about 1/4 inch ply strips on the top to snug it up. Two other club members building the same ARF reported the same fit problem.

Yep 1/64 on both sides made mine a perfect fit. Mine must have been slightly tighter than yours from the start. I just checked the wood and it is 1/64th thick. Daz...

I just fill those loose as a goose joiners with epoxy and be done with it. Watch the elevator throw on that Giles 202... No more than 1/4 inch for your first flights!!! I had mine set to 1" and I lost it due to snapping too close to the ground... (twice on two ARFs...) I didn't realize my Elevator throw was causing major problems until I lost the second one..

guru is rite.i test flew my friends with the elevater set to specs and it is veeeeerry sensitive and his is a little nose heavy which was a good thing.He is now using 30% expo and it flys like a dream.His spar was loose also and he did the use alot of epoxy method.

I told you I wasn't going to break any speed records assembling this thing. Limited time only lets me get in a few minuits every so often. I got the wing finally joined. Here's some Eye Candy.

I took a tip from a buddie of mine. This time I glued the wing dowels in first, then cut two small sections and stuck them in the wing bolt holes. Then I used Rubber bands to hold the whole mess toegether nice and tight. Two small C-clamps near the rear line up the TE while it's drying. Worked great.

I removed a 5" section of covering from the center of the wing and added 4" wide medium weight fiberglass. It didn't weigh much but it certainly strengthened the joint.

I really like this bird. It is a *****cat on low rates.

I'm trying to bust into 3D manuvers and my Cap232 (or me) is just not cutting it. I'm hoping the throttle control I'll have with the 1.6 will do that for me.
