Modeltech Calypso 60
#26
Hi guys.
I used to fly a Calypso over twenty years ago in F3A.
Following a mid-air during a practice session I just could not bring myself to throw it away after it had served me so well.
Even when I moved house ten years ago I took the damaged model with me.
The strange thing is that I remember the model looking so large as a youngster. Now after flying 2m and large Caps, Extras etc,
it seems tiny.
best of luck with yours

I think my Calypso was also from your time. It was in someone else house for 10 years or so before it came to me. You can tell from the condition of the box.
But it is a very nice flyer I must say.

I had two Modeltech Calypso's back in 1985, they were powered by the OS 61 Long Stroke, I was 15 back then..... I left the hobby 3 years later, and restarted two years ago. Now I'm flying a 72" Yak 54, but I will surely like to get my hands in a Modeltech Calypso again. The plane was excellent, and it flew like a dream. Any one knows were can I find one ???

Now I am wondering if I should do black or orange after the yellow.

Now, how about doing a checkerboard in those wide swaths that're around the fuselage. The checkerboard undersides are so striking, it just seems a shame not to carry that impact to the top somehow. And think about those checkerboards being something like the diamonds that're "flaking off" the cowling color on the Sukhoi in the attached photo. Those are an ARF workers effort and not very well done, but that's the idea.
Also, think about the possibility of using a white pinstripe between the colors. Some small details add quite a bit sometimes. When I added the black sunrays to the Sukhoi in the pictures, the plan was to white pinstripe all the rays as is done on the empennage, but I ran out and didn't have any white tape for the wings' rays. See the difference in impact between the wing's rays and the empennage's rays.
