Default Modeltech Calypso 60

I have embarked on another build, this time an ARC. Another legend from 1970's

You can see the canopy has turned yellow from years of storage.... Putting a pilot doll woould be useless in this case. So very likely for me to paint it.

I am intending to install mechanical retracts and intall a Saito 91. I am wondering will the length of the landing gear be enough to clear the 13 or 14" prop if I use the original retract cut out?

That is sucha nice model!! I had two and absolutely loved them. I flew mine on a Saito .90 as well, plenty of juice for F3A.

Wow! nice to see some trophies also....great. how did you do the retracts?

Now I am cracking my head to see how I should mount the retracts. To cut the metal rod or shift the mounting location further away from wing joint.

You got plenty of wood in the retracts mount, carve some out and move the retract outboard. I'll be honest, the Calypso can land at 2mph (shhh!, don't tell anyone). It floats to the point of being ridiculous, so even if you have a 1/4" prop clearance to the ground, the prop will never touch it.
During pattern competitions, I had callers that would yell "deadstick" to the judges thinking that my engine had died upon finishing a sequence. It happened more than once. The engine never quit, I just had to go to low-low idle and glide for a while for the model not to overshoot the runway.

Sounds faily simple. I think I will sand the wood by a quarter and get that much extra clearance just in case. You must be a pro, I don't think I can avoid prop contact with the ground at 1/4inch prop clearance.

What servos did you use on your Calypso? Thanks!! I was thnking of standard, maybe 3 to 4kg torque servos.

I have the same kit still in the box; wrecked my last one but I cant let him go, just trying to do a restore job. My only complaint with the ship is it looks like a leaf in the air, not a big presentation but what a great flier.

Mine uses a pull-pull rudder and a Y setup for the elevator.

I had to use 13 inch props with mine. I did not like mowing the runway during takeoff. It left grass stains on the plane.
