Anybody have one of these? How does it fly? Good construction? It says up to a .35, but would a .46 scream on it? Hover?

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Troy

I have one with a 52 magnum 4 stroke...it is very fun...for what it is...the wings are not symetrical....quality is excellent....for the price,... you can't beat it!!

I've got one with a O.S. 40 LA to save weight and run a 10X5 and it will just about hover. When I run an 11X4 it will hover and pull out of it. The only problem running the 11 is when I land the landing gear flexes just enough to smack the prop. I could use bigger wheels but I like having the wheel pants on it. I don't know how that guy is running a .52. That would use a bigger prop and add a lot more weight than what Im running. The plane DEFINITELY isn't a floater but it does fly well for me inverted. With these small planes you want to run as light as possible. You could use an O.S. 46 LA which is about the same weight as the 40 but with 2/10's of a horsepower more. I've flown a few so anymore questions, just ask

I have one that has been relegated to hangar queen status due to a flameout/stall on landing about 5 ft off the ground (ok, so i did an unplanned harrier landing with it. I broke the landing gear block out, along with one of the formers. Use nylon bolts on the gear, that way they shear off instead of the whole gear. I liked mine alot, very aerobatic, tumbling plane. I had an os 32sx w/macs pipe on it, turning an apc 11/3 or 11/4 prop, and it would have unlimited vertical at under half throttle. I used larger foamies on it to clear the prop, and bent the gear in. I never really got the hang of hovering it, because it is very hard due to the wing., and I was too busy flinging the sticks around at full throttle. The wing is very thin, so slow speed flight is iffy at best, dangerous at worst. DEFINATELY WRAP FIBERGLASS AROUND THE WING JOINT!!!. The wing will take all you can throw at it that way. I also braced my tail with 4/40 wire (needed the tail weight, so I went for something structural instead of lead). It will fly well inverted, but again, dont do it too slowly. Knifeedge is awesome with it, specially with alot of rudder throw, but there is roll coupling. It will also do a wicked high speed stall if youre not careful. The same qualities that give those bad tendencies will also make it one heck of a spinning/tumbling machine. It is capable of the most wicked cartwheels in its own fuse length at the top of a lomchevak.

As f16 stated, keep it as light as possible. Mine before impact was under 3lbs 8 oz. Before I put my battery pack in the tail, i needed 4 oz in the tail to balance. You might want to slice the turtledeck and sink a pack in there, to keep your weight down. You will need the weight if using anything over a 25.

I think there is still a pic of mine in the Show your ARFs thread. I dont have one on this pc, or I'd post it here.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions on the mods I made. I rebuilt mine the first time after knifedge spin/inverted spin/knifeedge spin that the motor flamed out on.

One last tip: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALOT OF ALTITUDE TO RECOVER WITH!!! It doesnt float out, you have to power and fly it out of spins if youre going to the extremes on throws.

I had one of these for a short time. I sold it to make more room for other stuff. I bought because at the time they were having a sale on it that I couldn't pass up. I installed a Magnum XL .36A engine and that proved to be an excellent combination. Plenty fast and excellent vertical. I didn't have to modify much at all other than cutting holes in the cowl a little larger than what would be needed for a similar .25 size engine. It was a great flying airplane. Loved it every time I flew it. It will do everything you ask of it as long as you have the power. I would not put anything in it less than the XL .36A.
One change I did make was to the receiver antennae. I don't like antennae's flying out the back of airplanes so I bought a Deans antennae which left nothing sticking outside the airframe and never had a problem with glitches or signal reception.
When I did sell it, it was fairly easy to make the sale as the guy who bought was extremely impressed with it every time he saw the plane fly.
