Any thoughts out there on these two planes? I just lost my Advance 40 on Saturday when an aileron came off. (see link for picture) I would just get another Advance but they have been discontinued. I liked the advance because it flew really fast, especially since I was running a Mac’s pipe on a OS .46FX with a shim on a strict diet of 30% heli . Also, I enjoyed the fact that the Advance sunk pretty fast when you pulled the power so you didn't have to float down the runway forever. Any way, enough reminiscing. Any thoughts or suggestions would most appreciated

I've got a super sportster 40 and you just described it. I'm running a 46FX on mine. I haven't clocked it yet, but I can outrun most of the other sport type panes at the field (not the racing guys but it's faster than the average plane). I've been extremely happy with mine. By the way, how much difference did that pipe make for you? Not RPM wise, but general feel of performance. I've been thinking about piping mine for the longest.

I had a sportster 2 or 3 years ago, it can be quite fast, and lands like you describe. Aerobatics wise it's ok. It couples badly, and depending on cg may (or may not) take a lot of down to hold inverted. I had the gear in the wing. I sold it to a pal who lost his plane in a crash. He changed the gear to the fuselage, and the ground handling was much better. If I built another, I'd put slightly larger tapered ailerons with two servos. I'd do some work on the rudder, and elevators too. The elevators are pretty good for this kind of plane, but could be a bit better. Maybe the same over all horizontal surface area, just airbalanced elevators. The rudder wasn't as srtong, and I'd probably go 125% with more area below the center. Beyond that I'd try to take some weight off. But I'm still thinking about doing another. It's a good all around sport plane.

I have a Super Sportster 40 with an OS 50SX. This is a very fast plane but will slow down pretty good for landing. I use an APC 10x8 prop tached at 13900rpm. As mentioned the only weakness is the landing gear, it is mounted in the wings and can bend pretty easily. The arf is an excellent value, I saw them recently at Tower for $139.

I have heard allot of positive feed back over the years about the Super Sportster. In fact the fellow that taught me to fly (thanks Curtis) said I ought to get a Super Sportster as my second airplane but as it turned out I became distracted with sailplanes for a few years after I folded my trainer. When I got back to power planes I bought a Kadet LT 40 for glider towing (still during the sailplane phase) and shortly after my Advance 40 because any power pilot will tell you horse power is more fun than gravity (at least some of ther time). So I guess I like the Cloud Dancer because it looks like an Advance 40 but everyone seems to enjoy there Sportster's and I have heard nothing about the Cloud Dancer but the idea of retracts on the Cloud Dancer sounds intriguing. At any rate, before I babble on to eternity, does anyone know if the Super Sportster fly’s anything like it does on Real Flight?

Thanks for the posts

Yes, the Realflight Super Sporster flies very similiar to the real thing. If you like the way it flies in the simulator you will really like this plane. It is a very fast plane when you want it to be. Keep it light with a 2-stroke .46-.50. An OS 50SX with an APC 10x8 prop is a great combo.
